I've cordoned off a section of my basement and have incrementally turned it into a mini "Home Theater". It's directly adjacent to my "Home Office" so it is my perfect little section of the house.


The HT specs:

TV: 50" Hitachi Plasma
AV Receiver: Onkyo 7.1 HTIB HT-S5100
Cable STB/DVR: Motorola DCT 6412 III
DVD: Onkyo DV-CP704 6-Disc Changer
Blue Ray: Onkyo DV-BD507
Media Server: Original Xbox Running XBMC
Remote: Universal Remote Digital R50
Lighting Control: Lutron Maestro IR Dimmer Switch



The XBMC setup was a result of being snowed-in and off of work for a week. Hot swapping the hard-drive...

Success...

Still Ticking after ~10 years...

Thanks to Jr. who has graciously agreed to donate one of his three current generation game consoles to my HT, I now have even more function...a XBOX 360. Can't wait for Project Natal to be released this upcoming holiday season.


This whole HT thing started off with the TV for christmas two years ago and I have been adding stuff ever since...very addictive.


Now if only I had a vcr dvd recorder combo ...and a larger tv stand...

Very good, isn't it nice to have your very own space???? How is the Onkyo HTiB working out for you? I was going to purchase the 5100 for my Media area when I had an increase in my budget and purchased the 507 and some Klipsch Quintets, but I think I would have been very happy with the 5100 too.


I also have a Hitachi plasma 42" in my family room. Seemingly not very many Hitachi owners around here. I think I got my Hitachi December of 07 and knock on wood it is still performing very well. I am impressed at how it handles SD Dish. Out of the two other plasma's I have Panasonic and Vizio it is the best at handling the SD signal.

It is great having my own space. Only spot in the house were WAF is almost a non-issue.


The Onkyo HTiB 5100 is an excellent starter system. When I first got it, I only had the Cable STB to hook up so it seemed almost future proof. Now, all of my HDMI and digital inputs are filled!!!


I'll probably upgrade the AV receiver to one that has a few more HDMI inputs and doesn't just have the HDMI passthrough which is inconvenient now. That's one of my only regrets about the system, the HDMI pass through - It didn't seem like a big deal when I only had one component...


I'm also pretty satisfied with the current sound quality of the existing speakers ( probably because I don't know any better yet AIIB* ) so a speaker upgrade isn't currently on the horizon.

Yup the pass through is a pain the 507 is that way too. Repeater is the only way to go for sure, just more options that way. It is surprising how fast those HDMI inputs get filled for sure.


I'm with you about the AIIB, but that is the way it is around here regarding everything. When I first started my "man cave" all I wanted was a projection tv and a couch, now it has become it's own animal.

Nice space - however, looks like that will behind the tv could easily support a theater sized screen - then get a projector - then theater will occur - LOL, but it's true.
