I think there is a pattern to these LP340/LP450 explosions. It seems that the Infocus recommended distance away from the wall to the back of the projector is something like at minimum of 3 feet or more. I have read several posting distances of 1.5 feet or less from the wall and the bulb exploding. I am not sure if that the distance from the wall is the cause of bulb ruptures but it could be one of the factors. All the people with bulb explosions, can you post the distance from the wall to the back of the projector. I am just curious.

My infocus was on a suspended shelf near my ceiling, with no side, front or rear obstructions within 5 feet of the back wall, and about 10 feet of any other wall.

I dunno how hot the projector got (beyond any norm I mean- the things felt like a blowtorch out the back, but they all seem to). My room is maintained under 63 degrees at all times.

My projector was almost 1 month old, maybe 150-180 hours on the bulb

I actually meant to say my unit was 2.5 feet rather than 1.5 feet from the backwall. The manual says 2 feet I believe. Has anyone bought the official ceiling mount from infocus? I am wondering if they recommend a further distance when ceiling mounting? I was told that there was a known problem of mercury build up on the bulbs that has supposedly been fixed (assuming it was fixed in the bulbs, not the units)

My LP340 doesn't feel that hot. The hot air coming out the back feels about as hot as the hot air coming out of the air vents when my house is being heated on a cold winter day.

How hot is normal?

I just discovered that by setting Standby time to "instant" I can effectively cool off the unit a bit faster before shutting it down by allowing it to go into standby, turning the lamp off and leaving the fan running for a few minutes longer.

I have the mount from Boxlight/Infocus. There was no mention of it as I recall in the instructions. I have mine mounted about 1.5-2' from the back wall. It's about 5 months old and has approximately 200 hours on it. No bulb explosions, knock on wood.... Actually as I recall the mounting instructions for the ceiling mount are on the web site.

I have mine 2.5 feet away from the wall and well ventilated all around and have never shut off without a complete cool down and my bulb exploded after 170hrs!! I bought the Toshiba version and I'm regretting that. They won't cover the bulb since it's been over 90 days! Horrible support, I think it's a bad batch of bulbs and I wonder how many other people have had the same experience. I think if they don't support it a class action suit could be made against Toshiba, but many more would need to come forward.

Anyone else have the same experience??

I had two bulbs explode in my LP350 within three months of purchase, Feb of 2001. Luckily, Infocus support was excellent and sent me two brand new projectors. The projectors were all ceiling mounted (in the same spot)with 4 feet of clearance for the back and sides. After the last bulb explosion I designed and hooked up an off delay timer (set for 10 minutes).

I trigger the timer from the "power on" relay inside my Sony HT receiver so that when I turn off the projector (using instant standby), then turn off the receiver, the timer keeps the projector fan on for 10 minutes then turns off. This approach also works well in that when I turn on the receiver the projector automatically powers up.

Not sure if this fixed the problem but I haven't had any bulb problems since last April. I do use the projector for about 2 or 3 hours per night.

Hey Bobor,

What did you use for the timer? I have been planning on doing this myself, but haven't put anything together yet. Were you able to find a commercial timer which would work or did you need to construct a circuit?
