Ok... I have been a lurker for a while... and had pretty well made up my mind that a NEC LT150 / LT150z was the right projector for me.

But then, Li On comes out with Panny AE100 (and all his great reviews and movie watching) and has now got me totally confused. The AE100 sounds like a formidable competitor to the LT150z

What is everyone's opinion... NEC or Panny?

Is the LT150z a better projector? Is the AE100 just so cost effective.

If you had the money for either, which would you take?

Would I be able to run either straight, without any line doublers or scalers?

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric,

As I always said, the LT150 is still THE best DLP projector I've seen. If the newer LT150z looks like the old one, it should give a great picture.

Sadly, any DLP projector is not for me due to many other issues...

regards,

Li On

ehanich,

I think this question is something that only you can answer for yourself.

You have to see both units, so you can decide what artifacts you are willing to tolerate.

I was willing to tolerate neither those of LT150 nor those or AE100, so it's neither of them for me.

Both have their pros and cons. You can find tons of posts about them in this forum. For me they were shortly:

LT150

+ decent black level

+ good contrast

+ decent (lack of) screen door

- NOISE

- RAINBOWS

- no PAL progressive via Y/Pb/Pr

- DLP motion artifacts

AE100

+ decent (lack of) noise (it's not quiet, but amonng the least noisy I've heard)

- screen door

- bad black level

- not very good contrast ratio

- not very bright

- not good scaler

- requires HTPC to look good

- lack of resolution (i.e. pixels)

That's my opinion only though. I urge you to have a home demo preferably of both side by side.

regards,

Halcy
