I am considering getting some M&K S-150P's. I was wondering if anyone had purchased these speakers? If so, are you pleased with your purchase, or would you recommend something else?

I am also considering getting an AVP 2 and an AMP 5. Would you recommend the AMP 5 or would you go with the HPA 2 and the HPA 3? I won some money at the casino's, so price is not a big concern.

Thanks for your help.:)

The S-150P's are powered, so you would not need the amplifiers. M&K also makes a non-powered version, the S-150, in case you wanted to use the external amplifiers. They are excellent speakers for theater, you will be well-pleased.

I just purchased another pair of M&K S-150's (non-powered) and now have five total - Front L, Front R, Center, Left Rear Surround, Right Rear Surround - with M&K Tripoles at the sides in a Lexicon 7.1 system.

Phenomenal! The extra pair of S-150's in the rear made a HUGE difference, and blend seamlessly (of course) with the fronts. Absolutely love these speakers - and they sound fantastic with music too.

I'm rounding out the bottom end with a pair of SVS 20/39 CS+ subs. Wow! These subs are amazing.

Good luck with your purchase!

Regards.

I recently bought the M&K S-150 package with a pair of SS-150's for the surrounds. They are OUTSTANDING speakers. They are very detailed, and extremely accurate on movie material, and not too shabby on music.

I've got (2) M&K MX-350's on order to round out the bottom end. A friend of mine just got the M&K 750 system with dipoles for sides and tripoles for the rears. He's powering them with a HK 8000, and let me tell you that the combo is killer. Great sounding on both movies and music.

And, as the previous poster stated, the S-150P's are powered and the S-150's are not. I would throw either a Parasound, Rotel or Aragon amp at these babies. They'll eat up all the power, smile, and ask for more. However, Anthem makes great stuff as well. I prefer the previous 3.

M&K's customer service is also outstanding. Give them a call, and they'll be more than glad to give you advice. They're great. And you can't beat the 10 year transferable warranty either.

Just my .02 worth ;)

I have not heard the M&K S-150Ps but am quite familiar with the M&K S-150s which were on my short list of speakers for my new home theater. In the end I went with a system consisting of Triad InRoom Golds across the front, two pairs of Triad OnWall Gold Surrounds, and a Triad Platinum PowerSub. I have not regretted my decision and feel that the Triads are superior to the M&Ks. The M&Ks are excellent, however, and cheaper. I cannot see how you would be disappointed with either the M&Ks or the Triads.

SMA779S,

I have talked to M&K tech support and just a side FYI, they use Bryston amps and Lexicon processors for their demos. For a 5.1 setup maybe the front S150's powered by PowerPac 250's and the SS-150 rears by a 4B-St would be sweet!! The M&K's are 4 ohms and have a 91-92Db rating (that pretty efficient) per M&K Tech Support. Skywalker Ranch uses Parasound amps with their M&K's. I LOVE M&K's for Home Theater..truely amazing!

I've got M&K S-150 fronts, 150C , SS sides and rears with 2 MC-5000 subs. Even before optimizing, the sound is stellar. Devastatingly good!

I am also considering these speakers for my room. But my problem is the dealer nearest me is 3 hours away and he wants 6 thousand for the S150 package. Can i do better than this? if so, where?

I have been doing alot of searching on the internet, and I am very impressed with what people are saying about these speakers. I auditioned the S150 non powered set at the above dealer and was amazed.

Here is something i am wondering as well. Some of you mentioned that you were running S150s in the L,C,R..... and Right Surround and left Surround. Does this mean you have the S150 Package with the SS150 as your rears, or does this mean you have the exact same speaker (S150) as all 5 channels? I have been confused about this. I am guessing it has something to do with timbre matching. Also keep in mind i am extremely new to this forum, as well as Home theater. I border on being an extremist though, my wife is on the verge of ...... well she just doesn't understand.... noone except the people on this forum seem to understand.

Thanks

Alan,

I think most people run the 150's for l/c/r and the ss150 tripoles for surrounds. I use the tripoles on the sides and a pair of NHT superone's for the rears.

I prefer the tripoles on the sides vs. the rear. (I've had my system set up both ways for months at a time)

Thanks Brian and mike

I see what ya mean brian. I will just price the entire S150 package rather than S150s all around. That would be too expensive for me anyway. But i dont however want to get the best possible sound, as i won't be building any more home theaters for..... say...... ever. Thanks for the info.

Mike,

I tried that link you supplied, but for some reason it wont work. I even did a search at google.com to see if that would work, but to no avail.

smittygt,

I'm running five S-150's with the Tripoles at the sides - in 7.1 mode. I've found the results of having five S-150's (Front L, R, C, Left Surround, Right Surround) to be unbelievable for both movies and Lexicon's great music surround modes. However, three S-150's up front along with the SS Tripoles are also a great way to go - whether you have one set or two!

Either way, you can't go wrong. These speakers are amazing.

Thanks Bam

Thats exactly what i have been needing to hear. Now to convince my better half to lay down the money for them. I absolutely cannot wait to hear them. I think the debating on which speaker package I was going to buy is over. Too many good things have been said, and I havent read one bad article about this setup, and believe me I have tried.

I am going to make a solid effort today in finding the best price for the package and beg the wife. Thanks again for the info.

Any config with the M&K will work. I have 150 for the front 3 and ss 150 for the sides I am working on what to get for the rears. I called M&K and they like the tripoles for the rear also but said between this and the 150 I would not be dissapointed. This is matched witha 350 sub.

e-mail me at [email protected] and I will give you my source for for M&K.

It will be close to cost. And from a M&K authorized dealer!!

I have heard the active 150 system and it is unbelievable. I heard from M&K that they are going to offer an active tripole soon-perhaps a powered version of the tripole 250. So, a person will soon be able to have a completley active 7.1 M&K system!!!
