Mackie Subwoofers Any Good for HT?

560 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  M NEWMAN
Hey guys... I DJ every so often and use a pair of the SRM450's. It got me thinking... why don't I buy a Mackie Active 18" subwoofer for my dedicated home theater? Check out the SWA1801, would that work in a home theater enviroment? I thinking yes... I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I like many of Mackie's products but for HT I would consider their Studio series like the HRS120 or 150 and other brands. They go lower and have a flatter frequency response. The product you linked is designed for clubs and can reach high levels and fill larger rooms but not for low frequencies (
I can imagine you'll get close to a flat response to 20 hz after eq, but at the expense of losing lots of spl above 35hz. I'd say forget about it.

Nothing against mackie, I use their hr824 monitors as mains and love it. I'd go with what Bob said and try out their studio subs if you want to use mackie.
If you don't mind losing everything below 30hz, then they'll do fine. There's starting to be a lot of recordings dipping down to, and below 20 hz though. Something to consider....
