We found a great deal on an open box Mitsu LT46121 last weekend. We paired it up with a phantom50 mounting stand. We've added a Moto 3416 I to our PVR mix. I took the opportunity to do some serious re-wiring of our system.

From the Moto to the Mitsu we are using a HDMI cable with a TOS link from the Moto to our surround. I rewired our DVD player with 5:1 cables. The Replays are off the AV switch I had them on and are all properly connected to our receiver.

The first HD show I watched was 24... All I can say is...holy...crap.

The Replays are not going away. We are using them to record SD TV and to backup the Moto--which really doesn't have that much space time wise for show.

The software on the Moto isn't as bad as I thought it would be--still it isn't as intuitive as on the ReplayTVs. The two tuners are nice.

I wish that there was a ReplayTV-like HD PVR though.

Creech,

Welcome to the Mitsu LCD family! I saw you post on the thread in the LCD forum. I bought a 46231 in february and it is a magnificent TV. Have you looked into the AVHDD stuff yet? They are basically special firewire harddrives that you can connect to the mitsu TV to record HD content. No monthly fees. Not as feature packed as a DVR, but it is pretty nice.. I picked one up really cheap on ebay.

I have not. Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into it.

Wait till football season comes around, till you've seen the game in HD.... you don't know what you've been missing

Some of the best network HD I've seen is on "Boston legal"- even though Fox is 720P, the exterior shots on that show rival any I've ever viewed.

I'm not a huge fan of football, but I am looking forward to the Stanley Cup.

No WAY! That is helpful to know.

Is that universally true??

Football and NASCAR on Fox is about the highest quality stuff I get!

Yes, HD on FOX and ABC is always 720p and HD on CBS and NBC is always 1080i.

We had Comcast over yesterday to install our 3416, connected to our new JVC HD-ILA HDTV. I saw the ports on the back of the box (ethernet, USB, etc.) but forgot to ask if they were activated. I need to find more info on the usability of the 3416. Maybe I'll look in some of the other forums.

You think the cable installers actually know that? I very highly doubt it. One of the guys who came over said the 30 second skip was disabled at the box. Found out later that it was just taken off the remote. Using the hack in the link posted earlier in this thread fixed that little oversight. You might just wanna plug in an external SATA drive and see if it works. Just make sure you can bring it back to a place without a restocking fee

I'm going to swap my Comcast HD receiver for an HD DVR tomorrow afternoon, hopefully a Moto 3416 or 6416. Very interested to know if the SATA port is active. If I try it first, I'll report back. I may end up testing the Firewire ports first, since I've grown accustomed to moving content to the computer. Though I'm guessing most of the digital broadcasts are DRM'd.
