Hi, I'm using dsplayer, but want to give Jriver a change because of the menu support for blu-ray and UHD. I selected madvr for in Jriver and it all works expect for hdr tonemapping. Is this a known problem?

Hi Experts,

I had a conversation with madshi in the Panamorph threat, but he won't hijack the thread for MadVR support question, therefore I want to ask here, how to use "anamorphic lens" with MadVR and Kodi.

Can somebody explain or post a link, how to use "anamorphic lens" with black bar detection without performance impact? What is the drawback if I use "copyback" for D3D11? I only can see D2D11 in Kodi with Copyback?

Thanks

S.

Can anybody please help me to setup my Paladin DCR with MadVR?

want to give Jriver a change because of the menu support for blu-ray and UHD.

For me madvr in JRiver is found here:
C:\Users\"your user"\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 25\Plugins\madVR

Here you can upgrade to madvr 0.92.17 by copying the "madVR09217"-folder into the plugins folder and the rename the original madvr-folder to perhaps "madvr-old" and then rename "madVR09217" to "madvr".
Make sure to exit madvr in the systemtray so madvr is not running.
http://madvr.com/

After you have upgrade (I'm not sure you have to upgrade) you can then download the latest madvrhdr and copying those fils into the madvr-folder.
http://madshi.net/madVRhdrMeasure78.zip
or if you just want to use Anna&Flo madMeasureDynamicClipping.exe you can settle with madvrhdrmeasure40.
http://madshi.net/madVRhdrMeasure40.zip

The simplest way to use the madvrhdrmeasure is to make a shortcut of the "madMeasureHDR.exe" that you will find in the plugins/madvr folder and put that shortcut on your desktop.
Then to measure a UHD HDR MKV-movie you simply drag the .MKV and drop it onto the shortcut that you created on your desktop.
It will then open up a new window where you can se the progress of the measured MKV.

(((For you to see all the HDR variables on the madvr OSD when you are playing a movie with JRiver you have to make an empty folder under the madvr folder and name that empty folder "ShowHDRmode")))
(((Make sure to uncheck all the trade quality for performance in madvr to get HDR to work properly, I'm not exactly sure which ones you have to uncheck so by unchecking everything you are on the safe side)))

but...before that will work I had to download an install a copy of the latest LAV installer (LAVFilters-0.73.1-Installer.exe) and installed everything to default (both 32 and 64-bit LAV).
I had to do that for the "madMeasureHDR.exe" to work for me.
(LAVFilters is contained within JRiver and "madMeasureHDR.exe" can not access those.

And then, you can download Anna&Flo "madVR Tool: MadmeasureHDR Optimizer" version 3.7.9
http://projectiondream.com/download/madmeasuredynamicclipping/

I have copied the folder "madMeasureDynamicClipping V3.7.9" under C: and then made a shortcut of the "madMeasureDynamicClipping.exe"-file to my desktop for easy access.

So when all is said and done.
I have two shortcuts on my desktop.
madMeasureHDR.exe - shortcut = To measure UHD HDR movie .MKV (Drag and Drop a .MKV onto the shortcut icon)
madMeasureDynamicClipping.exe - shortcut = To access and measure UHD HDR .MKV-files. (Dubble click the shortcut and make necessary changes and then select a file or folder to scan.)

There are a lot of steps to be made for this to work and I'm by no means an expert on this topic so take what I have wrote for what it is. I may have been mistaken when I wrote this from memory. So use my suggestions at your own risk so to speak. This is after all a work in progress and changes keeps happening all the time in various forum threads.

Ya the latest builds are so good I'll never use measurement files.

I believe the dragging and dropping is no longer necessary as Anna and Flo's tool will do it by batches when pointed to the right directory

you go to device-> your device name and set the type of device to projector.

after that you get an screen config option there you can use the anamorphic lens option.

You need as well the black bar detection, which unfortunately does not work with D3D11. Only Software rendering or “copy back” is support.

Therefore I search for a solution to use black bar detection with Kodi and still be able to upscale content to 4K and use HDR without performance impact

So what is the recommended setting for Kodi with Anamorphic lens?

Looks the same as EVR-CP

I followed the various guides and recommended settings from the first page of this thread and madvr looks identical to EVR-CP in MPC-HC. My GPU (1660 Ti) averages around 30% usage and pressing Ctrl + J shows between 20-40ms render time depending on the video so I assume something is happening. I tested different SD and HD video types through a 1440p monitor and restart MPC-HC whenever I switch between madVR and EVR-CP. I see absolutely no difference between the two render types, other than extra GPU use from madVR. What am I missing?

I don't know. You'd have to post the settings you used. I have my face right in front of a 1080p monitor and can easily see the difference between NGU Sharp medium and Lanczos3 + AR at only 720p -> 1080p. Turning debanding on and off at low strength is also visible at this distance. If you were talking about a 55" or smaller 4K TV, it might make more sense.

Maybe your brain isn't accustomed to spotting these differences when quickly switching between the two? No need to use it if you don't want to...Both are free renderers.

when does this d3d11 nonsense stop already just use DXVA2 copyback.

i's so limited thanks to madVR it's simply not an alternative yet...

Hey, I recently installed MPC-BE and am using MadVR as well with it to play 4K MKVs. It works perfectly fine when I am playing UHD/HDR MKVs, but when I play 1080p Blu-Ray MKVs, there is a red hue/tinting on the screen. Actors look like they all have a sunburn. When I move the mouse down to the play/stop/fast forward area of the player, the red hue goes away, but when it goes back to full screen, the sunburn returns. Anyone have any idea what I might try to fix this? For now, if I want to play a standard blu-ray, Im having to go back to using VLC...

I tried again by following this exactly https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/233290-high-quality-video-playback-on-windows/ and it is working but very subtle so it may have been working yesterday and I couldn't tell. I only see the difference by flipping back and forth on the same frame paused in MPC-HC/EVR-CP and MPC-BE/madVR. I only see a sharpening effect. I added more enhancements and I can see the change but again, still subtle, and possibly some artifacts introduced by the enhancements. I'll have to go through the settings again tomorrow now that I know it's functioning on my PC and see what I can get. I was expecting a more drastic enhancement, or at least some change in color/contrast.
