I run the initial setup and if I turn the box into standby mode it loses the config. Do I have a defective unit or is there a way to save it ???? I thought it is supposed to save it once it goes through the available channels. Other than this it works fine and I am able to get all the channels needed.

It certainly sounds that way.  I have the MG9 rather than the MW9, but it saves the channel table and most of the selected options, even if disconnected from the AC power.
