Mailing projector for repair remove broken bulb?

So Ive always had issues with this unit since I got it. Couple days ago the bulb blew at 500 hours very disapointing to say the least. Now Optoma is gonna take a look at it but didnt mention wether or not to remove the broken bulb ive contacted them but yet to hear back.

No, ship it back with the blown lamp still installed. What happened? Did it just go out, did the lamp shatter within the housing, explode??

Well it was acting goofy not always turning on and there was a distortion on the corner of the screen the developed shortly before it happened on the upper right. Few days later I went to play some 360 and heard a loud pop when I turn the projector on. I didnt open to see but I could hear broken glass in the compartment when I took it down from the mount.
