Make your own motorized screen using a cheapo one from ebay

I picked up a 120" motorized 16:9 screen from ebay for $169US which included shipping. It came with an RF remote and the mechanism seems to work well. The screen material is ok but I'd like something better. The screen material curls at the edges where the black border is but does not affect the white part of the screen as the curl has straightened out before hitting it. Has anyone tried replacing the screen material on one of these with a better quality material? An accousticaly transparent screen would sure be nice. There are lots of screen fabrics being sold on ebay but I don't know if they would hang ok or if they need to be stretched on a frame.

THis was my plan also. Buy a cheap roll up and replace the material with AT. The only fault would be because they are non tensioned they would/might wave or wrinkle. I don't have my projector yet, but I'm trying to figure out a non temporary AT screen solution before I do. I'd hate to make a tensioned frame AT screen and have to move it out of the way to watch my RPTV.


If you get around to swapping out the fabric, let us know how it goes.
