I’ve been doing a lot of research in preparation of purchasing my first PJ. I started out looking at units in the 3K – 5K range, but based on the information I’ve read I’ve decided to buy in the 1K range and wait till the higher-end technology comes down in price (3 Chip DLP). I’m close to settling on a PJ and I’d like to know different hardware configurations. I’m not looking for “mine is better because …â€, just what type of equipment do you have and would you buy the same again? What did you use to bring it all together?

I think this hardware list is comprehensive but please add device categories if needed: (Cut and paste in your reply and fill in the blanks)

Projector Brand/Model – Sanyo Z3

Cables/Connection type – Component (DVD and XBOX) HDMI (HD Cable).

Scaler (external) – Never felt it was necessary.

Receiver – Denon 3803 (7.1) with 2-in 1-out component switching. WISH IT had more component inputs and HDMI switching for future growth.

Speakers – NHT SB1 all around, SB center.

Switch box – N/A

Screen – DIY painted hardboard

DVD Player – Samsung upscalling

Game System – XBOX

PC Video Card – ATI Radeon 9800pro

Overall I think the only thing I really need is a good programmable remote. Everytime I upgrade a component, I have to reteach my wife how to go through all the remote clicks.

Bobby_M, thanks for the input. I appreciate the comprehensive component breakdown and I can sympathize with the remote confusion.

Bobby brings up a good point - I would definitely add a quality remote to the list. To me, it's just as important as any other component in your system. I'm partial to the Home Theater Master brand - I currently have 2 MX-700's.

i am definitiely happy with everything, and the Wow factor is awesome. I put it all together for fairly cheap which makes it all that much better. I have been debating about painting the screen to try to help with blacks but instead decided to build a bar (if I can build a screen and sound paneling, I can build a bar right???? ok I am in trouble).

I have a Mitsubishi WS-73909 73" HD RPTV behind the screen that I rarely use now that I am watching my new Panny! I had no idea what I was missing. Sure the Mits was beautiful, but only a measly 73".

Good luck with your set up, what ever you choose.

Thanks to those that responded. I ordered the H31, cables, and Audio/Video setup DVD. I just need to figure out which receiver to purchase. Thanks again. At this point it'll be something cheap that does 6.1 and has at least two component inputs.
