Hi all,

I have been lurking around the forums for some time now..must say incredibly informative..and here I am with my first post..


I am going to be getting a Marantz a/v receiver tomorrow but am TOTALLY and COMPLETELY confused between the 4003 and the 5003.


The speakers to be driven are the JBL CS 460/480's. Movies mainly on a 50" LCD, viewing space is 12'X14'. Drive is Philip's DVP3996


The 4003 fits perfectly into my very limited budget, the 5003, well, doesn't quite. However, I have been reading many conflicting reviews/articles/views on the 4003 and since I do not see my self upgrading for a long time, is it really that inferior to the 5003, and if so, why. The difference is quite considerable.

I am deciding between the two right now also. The big difference is the 5003 can decode the HD audio formats while the 4003 needs to be connected to a HD player that can decode the audio then stream it to the receiver. Also, the 5003 is a little more powerful. I cant decide if its worth $150 extra for the decoder ability.

Save a bit longer and get the 5003. Solves your problem.
