Marantz AV7005, sounds muffled

981 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Pbgunrunner
Hi, I have an older Marantz AV7005 running through a rotel amp. During some higher volume play the sound became "muffled" sounding, muddy highs and mids, on both speakers. It's that way through both my Bluetooth adapter rca, Xbox hdmi and TV hdmi. No settings were changed that I know of. Any idea what may have happened? And how to fix it? Thanks!

Does the muffled sound go away if you turn the volume back down?
What are your speakers?

It does not. Speakers are older Paradigm Monitor 9s, bi-amped thru a Rotel amp
To clarify my first post,, the change happend WHILE I was playing my system at a higher volume, not maxed by any means, but loud. It sounds the same now at any volume, not just high.
is it possible that it is the amp and not the processor?
I suppose it is, but wouldn't the amp just fail rather than change the sound? Isn't it just boosting the sound that the preamp sends?

It sounds like you might have blown your tweeters when you had it up so loud. Another thing to check is your wiring. You said you are bi-amping. Make sure none of the connections to your speaker posts have come loose.
Both speakers blowing at the same time would be odd wouldn't it? And it wasn't ungodly loud, I was in the same room w them
