I am looking to mount my VP-12S1. I was thinking of following Dan's advice to just us a shelf. The shelf should quiet the projector even more and is easy to install. My concern is that I have two M&K MX-5000's and I am concerned about vibration. Any suggestions? Should I stay with the usual hardware (Chief or Marantz)? Thanks

Tim,

I am using the Chief mount which I find quite nice. The RPA series. I like it because of all the possible adjustments, if you are a little off in your measurements. I have used this mount for every projector I have owned. When I change projectors, you do not need to change the whole mount, just what they call the SLB plater which attaches the mount to the projector.

About the Vibration thing, that would be a definite concern if they are on the same shelf.

I think I can answer your questions for movie man. The chief has its own mounting plate that connects to the DLP. You do not need the Marantz unit.

The length (drop) of the chief is controled by the length of a 1 1/2" pipe.

Vibration

Is anyone concerned about projector vibration (heavy LFE shaking the picture) or am I just crazy.

you need the RPA012 to mount to the projector. If you want to drop the projector down from the ceiling to get a straight shot at the top of your screen you'll also need the CMA100. It includes a plate that will attach to the ceiling and a telescopic pole that will attach to the RPA012.

It seems a bit pricey though. $205 for the RPA012 and $180 for the CMA100. Ouch. it's just metal.

I have the Chief RPA-012, love it, but paid only $145+shipping from MAVCO (Miami Audio Visual Company). Just giving a heads-up on the price.

Also, you may want to check with Jason here at AVS. I don't know for certain if he can get it, but if he can, he's really reasonable with respect to the prices of things he does have.

Good luck to you!

Guys,

Sorry I took so long to reply.. Work....

You can just attach the rpa mount to a galvanized 2 inch threaded pipe (One you can buy at Home Depot). Buy a 2 inch flange to attach to your ceiling and tahdah, your done.

Home Depot sells various lengths of this pipe already threaded. If you need a different size, they will cut and thread both ends for you.

Then I painted mine white, as I did the whole RPA Mount (Its black), and its just beautiful.

Rereading the other threads, Tim may be right. Instead of 2 inch, it may be 1 1/2. Either way, they sell both sizes. Lowes will do it as well.

So factor in about 145.00 for the mount, and 7.00 for the pipe and flange.

For the flange you may need to find a stud, to screw into. If there isnt one exactly where you need to mount it, then you can simply tack on 1x4 plank to your ceiling going perpendicular to your studs, they should be just 16 inches on center apart, or possibly 24 inches. Then attach the flange to the plank. Paint the plank the same color as your ceiling.

I have been fortunate enough, that my 3 last projectos, all shared the same throw distance for my screen, so I just simply swapped out the SLB bracket.

When you buy the RPA mount for a particular projector, it comes with the necessary SLB plate for your projector. In other words. The RPA -012 will have the SLB-012 plate with it, when you buy it. When it comes time to change your projector, you would just order the SLB-XXX plate. X's being whatever model number your new projector will need.

Simple...

Ahhh, someone who likes bass more than me... 2- 400 watt M&K subs. Man your room must vibrate like crazy. I have a M&K 200 watt sub that sits right next to my shelf for the Marantz and another 300 watt M&K sub across the room and if I put my hand on the shelf I can feel some vibration but it never makes projector move or causes anything noticeable on screen as far as the image moving. If I were you and had it on a shelf though I would make sure that shelf is very secure and check it regularly for loose screws.

Thanks Mike,

I think I am going to go with the Chief ceiling mount. It should be much sturdier. Thanks

I'll give an update when I have the full HT beast hooked up. Getting most of the gear on Monday.
