Marantz PM7000N

Marantz has announced an "all in one" integrated amp with streaming, looks pretty interesting. $999, 60 WPC rated at 0.02% THD, DAC, USB phono, adjustable crossover. They have a feature that can "listen" on digital inputs and power the receiver on plus learn TV remote volume codes. It also features many buzzwords (HDAM SA3, SPKT-1+, etc.) for all the ways they built it but it sounds like they put some effort towards isolation and separation of components. What Hi-fi reviewed it and gave it 5 stars (on their scale of four to five stars).

Some things that seem odd:

  • No pre-outs (the much cheaper NR1200 2 channel AVR has them plus HDMI switching)
  • It seems like everything network runs through HEOS
  • Edit: it does include a remote
  • HDMI ARC would have been nice
  • "Pure" mode for bluetooth?
Seems like a decent value against stuff like the NAD 368 BluOS but if you wanted external amps the NR1200 is probably a better bet.

As an NR1200 owner, I agree

The main problem that I have with the NR1200 is that it does not play back native DSD. It first converts to PCM then goes through the DAC. I do not know if the PM7000 does this also or not.

Do you like it otherwise? It seems super flexible and the small size makes it easy to recommend to friends who aren't used to full size audio components.

The PM7000N is probably better compared against the upcoming Onkyo 8390, which has a bigger amp (200 BS marketing watts per channel, 135 actual 8 ohms full range 0.08% THD) AccuEQ and pre-outs for around the same price.

Yes, I do like it otherwise. I use it in a simple bedroom system. It replaced a Pioneer SX-N30. I liked it better than the Onkyo 8270. See in my signature below.

I have an Integra DTM-7 (rebadged 8270) and I've been generally happy with it but it's been almost 2 years so upgrade-itis is creeping in. I think I'll do my speakers first, though.
Just started the 2 channel research phase . I also want to stream amazon hd music , so this product looks very tempting. Too bad no one has them yet

What about it looks tempting compared to other systems out there?

well, I've never focused on only a 2 channel setup. To me this is plug it in , hook up some speakers and go. I can stream Flac from amazon or hook up a turntable in the future.

Seems like a pretty good unit for that. Out of all the "mid-fi" integrated amps in the $399-$999 range, I prefer the Marantz sound over all of them.

Personally, I don't like all the digital stuff built in...but I understand why it's attractive to some. This unit basically does everything and should do it pretty well.
Three are others that are less expensive with more features.

please elaborate.. I'm not set at all on this unit. My speakers will be the Kef Ls50. I want to sit on the couch , open up the heos app and stream some Hd music from amazon. I don't want to leave a pc running and i don't have a Nas . Sure all Denon and Marantz and now some onkyo receivers will do this, but they all have Hdmi, which I have no need for . I'm also leaning towards the Nr-1200 but again has hdmi.. Who woulda thought that good old stereo would have so many options :)

They also might not sound as good, look as nice or could be different amp architecture (like class D).

Any examples that you are thinking of?

Pioneer SX-N30, Onkyo 8720, marantz NR1200

Anything with HDMI is more on the "home theater" side of the house.

The PM7000N is basically a PM7005, only with digital streaming built into it. You're still getting the better grade components like you do in the PM line.

Compared to the NR1200 that basically a 2-channel version of their AVR's (NR line).
Just found on Instagram that the sale date is Nov 15

I agree, but with a $1000 unit, you should be hooking up speakers that are $2000 or above.

Please don't spread this around anymore than what it is already. Due to the quality of "inexpensive" speakers in this day and age, this is no longer all that close to being valid.

Plus, someone mentioned they'd use LS50's with said amp, which would be a nice combination.

Just think of it as a $600 amp with a $400 DAC/streamer built in, then $1200 speakers are perfectly on budget ;)

Hi, can someone tell me if there is a SUB out VOLUME CONTROL on this or does one need to use the powered sub volume?
What is the sound signature of the built in DAC?
I got one through accessories 4 less for 799. I had the Denon DRA-800H , wasn't impressed with that so returned it and got the marantz. I'm really glad i got the marantz. I have no sources other than using amazon hd music through the heos app. Using a pair of Kef Ls50 and I'm a happy camper. Here is the manual manuals.marantz.com/PM7000N/NA/EN/
