I have a Marantz SR-19 A/V receiver that has served me faithfully for almost 5 years now. It gets turned on almost every night (I use my HT for TV viewing) and has been through many showings of SPR DTS at high volume.

Recently the sound quality has deteriorated, notably the center channel. Over the past few months there has been "crackling" in the center channel as if it is distorted.

After testing other speakers on the center channel (still "crackling") I have come to the conclusion that the receiver is broken or is dying. Is it worth getting serviced?

Has anyone else experienced this problem with their receiver?

Is it time to "upgrade?"

Did you try different speaker wire?

It could be the wire that is the problem.

Does that rec have a center ch pre out?

If so and the problem is in the amp you can just and a mono block amp.

I tired a different wire and a different speaker (that works on another system).

I reset the receiver last night and unplugged it for a few hours. The center channel appears to be working fine again.

I'll pull the cover off and give it a good dust cleaning under the hood.

Maybe I can still convince my wife we need to upgrade to the H/K 7300 ;)
