Marantz vs. Yamaha

729 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  edster922
I bought a Yamaha 5860 reciever because the big box store I was shopping in didn't have the 5890 in stock, but plan to replace it after researching more recievers.

I'm looking into the Marantz SR5600, maybe even the 7500.

Ther reciever sounds very bright through my lower end B&W's. They never seemd this crisp.

Are the Marantz recievers typically better for musical clarity then the yamaha's? I've heard that they are78738034 prefer.

Does video upconversion really help the picture quality? My PS2 looks like crap on the 1080p TV.

Welcome!

Your post is not very clear but I think you meant that the Yamaha was brighter with your B&W.

Marantz has a sound thats been described as "musical" and "warm". The Marantz 7500 will make a fine addition to your HT.

Video upconversion just transcodes the signal to match up with your displays' native resolution. If you have a 1080p capable display, then probably your TV accepts only a 1080i signal and then brings it up to its 1080p.

Enjoy!

Marantz is warm, B&W is borderline bright, so great combo. Yamaha, bad idea.

I'd get the 5600 instead of the 7500 mainly because the Marantz 5xxx series has the best reliability record by far, according to a friend of mine who knows several Marantz dealers. If you need more oomph for your mains you can always add a 2-channel external amp to the 5600.

accessories4less.com has some great Marantz deals.

Video upconversion is pretty pointless unless the receiver has a first-rate processing chip like the Faroudja chip on the flagship HK7300.
