I have a Marquee 8001. It has been working great until the picture suddenly went off.

The machine has about 1700 hours of running time.

I traced a problem to the HVPS. I removed the supply and found that the internal fuse was blown. I Ohm'd out the 2 FET's and the 2 Flyback diodes. They all appeared to be OK. I tried a new fuse and put the supply back in the projector.

At turn-on the Low voltage supply boots up ok. The 390V neon in the HVPS comes on indicating bus voltage. I press the power button on the remote and the green tube shoots out a image for about 1 second, then it goes off and re-appears about 1 second later. The whole cycling goes on until I turn-off the remote.

I can see all the functions work like contrast ect. (you can see the menu on the screen)

I have remove head HT cable from each tube and tried the whole thing in all HT combinations many times. I have even disconnected the video neck boards from the tube with all the HT either connected or discnnected. The HVPS still cycles.

I know the power supply is cycling because there is a yellow LED on the control board in the HVPS. When the LED flashes on, the image disapears from the screen. The HVPS resets and repeats everthing.

Does anybody know what the LED signifies?

Is my HVPS damaged? It costs nearly $200o to try a new one!

If, it is not the HVPS, where should I start to look to find the fault?

Thanks

Sounds like internal arcing withinthe HV supply. I've seen that before. Replacement is the only cure, but you should be able to fiund a used one between $400-600. I'm currently out of stock, Tim Martin will have them though.

Inspect the red anode lead all the way back to the grey potting in the HVPS for cracks that could permit arcing. Also, reseat the HDM in its socket. That can cause the cycling problem, which could be entirely co-incidental with your blown fuse.

Thanks for the advice.

I have checked the HT cable for cracks and it is fine. Tim Martin has already had me re-seat the HDM and I still have the problem.

I have located and ordered a HVPS.

I just wish I knew what this HVPS internal indicator light was supposed to indicate. I have contacted Spellman (the manufacturer) and they do not know or will not tell. I have contacted VDC and they say that Spellman did not give them any information about this power supply.

Anybody know what the LED indicates?

Spellman Sucks!

I'm going to be selling my Ampro 3300 because I'm sick and tired of f****** with the stupid Spellman power supplies.

IMHO, they are the weak link in any Electrohome or Ampro PJ.

And Spellman is sooooooooo helpful with their support for their $2K POS!

I made a couple of inquiries on that. The answer I got and agree with is you have a shorted supply. Rip it open and see if its anything obvious. I have opened a few on the ECP models. What a mess though.

Warrington Lad,

Why pick that name? Are you from Warrington in the North of England...near Liverpool.
Ahh - the memories! Many a happy hour spent partying in Warrington. :D

You beat me though - I've only been here for 7 years. Beats living in Crewe somehow :p

Thanks for the help.

I got a used HVPS and now I am back in the home theatre business.

To anyone interested in my chosen AVS forum name. I am from Warrington in England. The only thing I miss is the Beer. I've now overcome that problem since I brew my own.

Beer and Marquee projectors what a combination for a great Friday night.

If anyone needs one, I have 6 of the Spellman 34Kv HVPSs in stock. I do not have any of the 34.9KV left though....

Thanks,

Does anyone know the similarities/differences in the Spellmans for a Marquee versus an Ampro?

Are they swappable?
