Martin Logan Motion or PSB Image 1B as my surrounds?

1058 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  gajCA
I'm looking for a little assistance.
My current set up is:

Fronts: PSB Imagine X2T Towers - https://www.cnet.com/reviews/psb-imagine-x2t-review/

Centre: PSB C Centre - https://www.noteworthyaudio.com/products/psb-imagine-c-centre-channel-speaker

Now - i was using my Martin Logan Motion 10 ( https://www.martinlogan.com/en/product/motion-10 ) as my surrounds.

I went out and bought PSB Image 1B's ( https://www.cnet.com/products/psb-image-1b-speakers/ ) and was using them as Front Presence....wayyy up high.

We have moved our room around and no longer can make use out of Front Presence.

Should i keep using my Martin Logan Motion 10's as my surround or now use the PSB Imagine 1B as my surrounds instead? I assume it makes sense to use all PSB? Are they roughly the same quality, or would using one be a great benefit over the other?

Thanks for any advice!

I would expect the motion 10's to be the better speaker. But what I would do is hook both up to your receiver as fronts a and b, swap back and forth, and see which sounds better.

Does anyone know if im ok to block the bottom vent/bass hole (i assume lol sorry for not knowing) on my Martin Logan 10's?
Using a small box will block the bottom hole if i try to raise them (currently below ear level) with it.
Another question i hope people see without starting a new thread.
I ran my speaker calibration with the mic and the receiver sets all the speakers to large.
Should i change that to small? If so would the crossover be set to 80 or 60?

Thanks so much for the advice!

It should be OK but I'd just use the PSBs as surrounds.

Yes, set all speakers to small with 80hz crossover and turn off Dynamic EQ.

Those are common mistakes Audyssy makes.

Experiment with Dynamic EQ with different offsets to see if you like any of them.

I only use Dynamic EQ with very very old movies, (think black and white), that lack and depth to soundtracks.

Thanks for the advice - you really think i should use the PSB for surrounds? The Martin Logans two or three times the price. I do like the idea of using the PSB's though. The Martin Logan towers are too short and below ear level for surrounds. They look ridiculous when i try to raise them on boxes etc.

Horses for courses.

Use the Martin Logans in a stereo setup (a stereo amp can be had for under $200) or give them to a family member or friend.
