What are your thoughts on Martin-Logan speakers (the whole line)? Are they still the hot-ticket they were in the last millenium? http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

All opinions are appreciated!

I have had the ML Airies for the past five years. They are amazing speakers the mid range is about as good as it gets and they provide great value for the dollar. I think they are class B recomended by sterophille with the $$$ great value sign ( As are the PSB stratus Gold) I am not certain ?

But... They are ideally siuted for a smaller room. Are not as forgiving as other speakers. By that I mean they bring out the limitations of your other equipment. I originally purchased them with the Cal audio CD player a very good sounding unit but found the logans made this player sound harsh and edgy and soon had to upgrade to a seperate transport and dac at more than five times the cost of the cal.

They also, as are all eletrostats, not dynamic sounding and thus would not be ideally suited for home theater. However, I have no compliants about them when listening to movie soundtracks.

When I moved to a bigger apartment I was aware of the room limitations.

I am not sure what type of music you listen to. If you are like me my taste varys from heavy metal to classical. With heavy metal, rock and dance music I found the sound to be a bit anemic and would structure my listening preference around the logans and n select accoustic music more often.

With the right music, real good equipment and the right room, You would be in audio bliss

Give them a listen. If you decide you want them give me an E-mail. I am purchasing the Hales T-8's in a few weeks and I am trading them in along with my HSU subs I used with them. But I would be glad to point you in his direction and he sells alot of the audio stuff I recommended previously. I have been purchasing alot of stuff from him so I would tell him you were a friend and he would have to take care of you. If you are planning to be in the NYC area, stop by and I will give you a demo.

I use reQuests and a Logos across the front in my music/HT setup, with Meridian electronics for the digital front end. I love these speakers!!!! I find them very dynamic, even in my Meridian's "Direct" mode without the subwoofer engaged. The imaging, midrange, vocals and transparency are incredible for music. FWIW, my wife loves how these speakers sound and practically insisted that I buy them over the others we auditioned, even though they wreak havoc on the decor!

On films, the Logos is outstanding because it reproduces voices (midrange) so well, although it's a w-i-d-e speaker and won't fit all setups. I use Linn sides and rears for size reasons, but if I was able, I'd use small MLs (Scripts or Aerius) as side speakers to get the dipole effect.

I recommend MLs, especially if you have a system that will be doing double-duty for music and HT. I don't feel I'm missing out on anything in HT, but a good sub (or two) is essential. They are certainly worth a good listen at a local dealer for both music and HT.

Good luck.
