Master and Commander Stream vs Disc

So I've been buying a lot of movies on streaming lately, mostly for the convenience and up until last night I didn't notice HUGE differences.

But wow.. I bought Master and Commander and started it up and what a massive disappointment.

It was so bad I literally thought something was wrong with my audio system. Going around checking connections on the subwoofer etc.

So I popped the disc in and to my delight there was nothing wrong with my system, the stream just sucked.

First time I've ever REALLY noticed, but I also wonder if it's because I just know that movie so well and used to use it for a sound demo. Hell I'm pretty sure it sold my last house :)

Anyway... I will now go through the process of "grading" my streams vs. my discs (because I'm crazy I guess) just so I know which ones are completely inadequate... so much so that I'm trying to figure out a way to remove things from my library, although I don't think it's possible on Movies Anywhere or Vudu.

Just wanted to throw this out there... you guys probably already know all of this but I personally never noticed that large a difference until now.

I have some iTunes movies which are great generally but if bandwidth falls on either side they look like potato vision.

I diid what I never tend to do and hosted a movie night with a streaming movie and in the final 8 or so minutes for some reason my incoming was lagging and everything looked melted. My guest didn't complain but it was pretty disappointing. I think maybe my kids started streaming at the same time. I think Fiber will be more available in my area soon but soon could mean anything really.

Vudu support can remove a movie. I need to do this with a thing I thought was a collection but it was rather a kind of top 10 list vlog type of thing.
Master and Commander is one of my Favorite discs for audio. I had the DVD and it sounded incredible. That was in the mid-2000s. I purchased the Blu Ray a few years ago and again, incredible. Even with the DSU working on my AVR for my Atmos Speakers, those ambient sounds and effects were much improved.

This is one of those titles I would love to purchase in UHD with an Atmos or DTS-X audio presentation.

Cool I'm going to contact them and see if I can remove it. Yeah Master and Commander is definitely one of my "go to" movies for sound. I guess I'll wait and be hopeful for a UHD release.
I have never bought a movie on a streaming service, but I do redeem the digital codes that come with the 4K discs that I buy. The digital versions are nice to have for other rooms in the house.

I have specifically AB compared the audio for around 20 movies. I am by no means an audiophile, but the streaming versions will never be used in my main listening environment. I find the video quality for movies on Apple and Movies Anywhere to be mostly adequate, but the audio is always a pretty big disappointment In comparison to the disc.
Yeah I'm definitely not an audiophile either. Heck I've lost most of my hearing in my left ear. And before this I hadn't noticed really. But it might just be because I know the movie so well I KNEW something was wrong. But I do all the streaming for the exact same reasons you state. It's convenient and nice to have in other rooms.
Has anyone seen/heard any "official" explanation for why there's been no 4K of this movie? Doesn't seem like it could possibly be due to lack of interest or demand, so is it for some technical (or, worse, legal) reason? Gotta think they'd make their money back many times over from all of the people who wouldn't think twice before buying it - again.

I'll qualify this by saying this is only for Netflix and on my FireTV Cube but the 4k streams on Netflix cap out around 15Mbps. That is well below most average blurays and much less than a 4k disc that could be 6x as high. I don't know about other streaming services. I have a 175Mbps service FWIW.
