How should The Matrix be encoded for Bluray?

Matrix on Bluray - Which codec do you want

Serious question - please give your thoughts in this poll.

Well, The Matrix Trilogy is now out on HD DVD using VC1 and TruHD Lossless Audio. So far the reviews are giving both the video and audio presentations 10 out of 10s and 5 out of 5s, and some reviewers have said this is one of the best high def discs they have ever seen.

The question is - Which codec would you like to see used for a future Bluray version of this movie?

Although we do not know when this movie will be ready for Bluray (one assumes the new BD player profile November 1st deadline is relevant), please indicate how you think it should be presented on Bluray.

High bit-rate AVC /w TruHD

I will add though, that if it gets it to Blu quicker then VC-1 with TruHD and a DD secondary track would more than suffice

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. a 5/5 and 10/10 for the HD DVD version has me saying keep the VC1 for the Blu-ray. I'd be happy with a Dolby TrueHD track as well, but PCM would be more benificial to more Blu-ray owners.
AVC + LPCM for me. As great as DTS-Master looks on paper I much rather have something I can actual take advantage of.

Yes, that makes sense.

I have to agree. A great disc is a great disc, regardless of how many gigabytes it uses. I voted for PCM as well; universal player compatibility and no metadata. Judging by Warner's recent trend though, it'll be TrueHD and I'm still fine with that.
If the HD-DVD reviewers can applaud The Departed's PQ, I call into question their review of alot of VC-1 Titles (not all, I leave room for exceptions). But Id rather see some sweet BD-50 AVC, LPCM or TrueHD (even with my onkyo 605 comming, my PS3 still wont pass DTS HD MA).

Lets see something on the level of POTC
I'm fine with VC-1, as Warner has made it clear that it is their codec of preference, but I'd prefer them to re encode to not leave 20 GB blank on the disc.
It goes without saying that Warner will use VC-1, so voting on the matter seems irrelevant. Now that said, the question then becomes what will they do for audio... assuming a move to 50GB discs, I would *hope* that it be LPCM. Obviously we know the TrueHD on BD isn't their style.
I already got the HD DVD version, but the Matrix movies should be encoded for BD with high bitrate VC1 for video and 24-bit TrueHD or PCM for audio. What would be the sense in giving people soundtracks that are truncated to 16-bit?
I voted for VC1 & DTHD but I want Warner to encode the video to BD specs so we can see the difference between 50GB/40mbps peak vs 30GB/30mbps peak video.
I think I'll pass on the entire series as the 2nd and 3rd movies were poor at best...
I'd love it if we got LPCM, especially if WB doesn't re-encode, they could at least use the bit budget for some lavish sound.

And anything that is available in HD should be; I'd like to see the extras on BD25 even if the majority of the content is only SD.

If *any* part of the Animatrix is available in HD, please make it happen. That, frankly interests me more than the latter two movies! (Though I will still buy this set)
I will probably wait until I can just buy the first movie, the 2nd was awful and I avoided the third (and am told I was wise in doing so).

I expect to see just the same VC-1 encode since that is Warner's standard practice. It would be nice to see Dolby TrueHD, which Warners seems to now to willing to provide to Blu-ray some of the time. The encode is getting excellent reviews.

If I were really able to decide, I would be happy with AVC and PCM but I cannot imagine this being a live option.
I'd go with high bitrate VC-1 + PCM / TrueHD...

With the Animatrix in HD

not interested Got HDDVD, because warner likes to drag their feet on BD.
AVC + any lossless.

While the HD DVD is getting great marks on PQ and AQ, I would still like to see the title optimised for the BD format. How many early DVD's did we have that were considered reference titles in the early days, only to be surpassed by new reference discs, or perhaps even Superbits?

"Final Flight of the Osiris" was finished in HD for theatrical release with "The Dreamcatcher." It's a shame that the complete Animatrix isn't going to be presented that way. I'm guessing none of the other segments were finished in HD, intending the feature to go direct to DVD in the first place.
