I have done all sorts of test and I have to conclude that the high power is a waste of time and money if your PJ is ceiling mounted. The only thing you get from the HP as opposed to matte white is (maybe) less waves (Da-lite says is shouldn't matter). Another advantage of the HP is that it could possibly keep unwanted light from being reflected towards you.

In my opinion plain ole matte white is perfect if you can control your lighting and you have a ceiling mounted PJ. I've heard everyone talk about how the HP is fantastic even for ceiling mounted projectors. With my comparative test, brightness and color seemed duller than matte white with my PJ ceiling mounted. This is most likely due the most of the light from the PJ being reflected back above my head. With that, i'm ordering a 72"x96" model b matte white screen for my X1. Forget the model C. I can paint the borders black with flat black spray paint. Did it before with my 70x70 model b. I also have a 70x70 glass beaded model b I never used. If anyone in MA wants it PM me.

Ceiling mounted PJ guys. Please verify my findings.

I would also like to add that there is no way my wife would let lower the PJ. It just looks better out of the way of everything. Also the lower the PJ, the lower the bottom of the screen will have to be to the floor. Can't have a screen less than 1/3 below your eye level so guys with large screens will haev a problem lowering the PJ unless the turn it right side up.

May be you have a really high ceiling. My test with 1.4, 1.0, 2.6 glass beaded, and HP indicates HP is still brighter even ceiling mounted. Granted my ceiling is less than 8 feet. My PJ is also X1.

The height of my ceiling is about 7.5ft. Maybe you have the illusion that you image is brighter becase blacks/colors are more washed out. I used samples side by side at different locations on my screen. Once thing I did notice it that whites are much whiter with matte white than in HP when the PJ is ceiling mounted. The whites with HP seemed a little dull/yellowish.

inittab,

What is the height of the PJ off the floor? Then what is your eye height from the floor? Just wondering what the delta is between your PJ and your eye level? I would assume from your post that they are both at the same height, so the light from your PJ would be reflected directly toward your eyes and not the floor.

MY PJ is ceiling mounted about 7.2ft of the floor. My eye level is 3.6ft off the floor.

I'm about the same as you @ 43.2". Have you compared matte white and HP with the PJ @ 40" above eye level? If so what were your results similar to my findings ?
