It depends on a lot of factors, including the cable quality, how strong the video is being transmitted, and how good of a tv you have to receive the signal.


But, the general rule of thumb is, anything over 50 feet will probably need a vga/hdmi extender.

It is also depenendent on the resolution of the content you are sending. For example for HDMI 1.4a 3D resolutiions High Speed HDMI cables are reccomended and they are not available in lenghts of over 25'. For 2D resolutions standard speed HDMI cables are suffient and they have a max length of 50 '.
