Maximum Resolution

662 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jceasar
Hello all,

I have a sony klv s32a10

Max resolution is 1366x768

I am using vga from pc to vga on t.v

The only resolution that looks good is 1024x768, does anybody know why this is?

1280x768 looks terrible and so on.

Any idea what is going on here anyone?

Thank You,

Jce

Your computer video card might not be doing a good job of scaling the video information although horizontal scalig is usually easy to do without problems.

Resolutions as specified in the computer via Windows settings may also imply a different frame rate or specify different sync. voltages or timings. I don't know what your TV wants for these parameters.

What problems to you see?

Does your ordinary CRT computer monitor accept 1280 x 768 and display it well?

1280x768 should look decent on that unit. 1360x768 will most likely result in banding.

Try going into WEGA gate configuration and adjust phase/pitch.

Max resolution on that unit actually is not 1360x768, at least I don't see it that way. The native panel res is 1366x768, but there are 2 things I would consider points against 1360x768.

1) the panel is missing the EDID info for 1360x768 so with many cards you'll need to force that resolution

2) the panel exhibits vertical banding at that resolution. I've tried with ATI R9800 Pro and PNY Verto 6600GT. Both have the same behavior. If you are not that picky about dot by dot pixel mapping then it might be ok for you.

If you want to describe your problem in more detail maybe someone can give you more specific advice.

Well i do have a ati radeon x300 se 128mb

Now when i do run it in 1280x768 or higher what i see is the txt is blurred and images are blurred. When i try to adjust the pitch and phase nothing happens just spaces it out.

1024x768 looks fine but i would like to run higher. Thats what i bought it for...so the txt is not crisp its sloppy and images are blurred with 1280x768 and higher

Any further assitance will be greatly appreciated.
Also, why does 1024x768 work fine though?
Probably some timing problem or mismatch. Could be TV is recognizing wrong resolution. Could 1000 other problems.

What mode does the TV say it is in when your PC is configured for 1280x768?

Press "Display" on the Sony remote.

This is the modeline from the KLV-S32A10 EDID. You can try cut/pasting this into powerstrip and see if it gets you where you want to be faster.

"1280x768" 79.500 1280 1344 1472 1664 768 771 778 798 -hsync +vsync

About your PM, I didn't know what context your question was regarding. I've used nVidia 6600GT and ATI R9800 Pro with KLV-S32A10 over VGA. I've also connected both cards with DVI->HDMI. The latter will give you overscan (as expected for AV-centric HDMI port) and you will be limited to 480p/720p/1080i over HDMI. For PC use, I suggest you stick with VGA.

Did you try 1280x720 and let the TV scaler do its thing. I seen some 1366x768 panels that work well with 1280x720 with the TV scaler. My HP (Sharp) native 1366x768 works great on 1280x720 from vid card setting and then I use the TV's sync feature on my TV and the text and screen looks fine. Thats what i am using right now. I can not get 1366x768 or 1360x768 to work correctly on my set but I am using DVI only.
