So does that mean we will all have the problems that Dave is having with his 4504 and all the tools to extract Mpegs from the unit? (ie. is the 4.3 used for 4504 the same as 4.3 for 4040, 4080, 4160, 4320?)
I am wondering whether I need to rush to extract my shows now to burn them to DVD before losing the ability either temporarily or permanently...
The official FAQ says that 4000s and 4500s can interoperate for streaming. If the 4500 could interoperate with the current 4000s, it could interoperate with the current ReplayPC. It can't, so I don't think 4000s and 4500s can currently interoperate either, which means that when SB says they can, they mean that they'll be able to soon. So yes -- I expect 4000s to get a software update shortly that will break current streaming clients.
And I'm willing to bet I have a working client again within 12 hours of having a 4500 or 4.3-running-4000 available for direct testing.
