Who else thinks WTSP-DT is too bright when doing upconverted zoomed SD programs? I need to put sunglasses on to watch that is how bright and washed out it is!

I am still having trouble getting channel 44 digital. When I go to the installation page, I am getting a full 100 on channel 54, but I cannot pick up 44 digital. Is there anybody that can help?

Well, last night was the 1st time in 60 episodes of Buffy that I actually had a fantastic picture - no static, haze, or washed out grayness.


I actually recorded Buffy and Roswell on my HiPix and skipped the commercials - what a great toy!!! Watching on the Tivo was NEVER this good because of the crappy analog signal (gray) on TW Cable (but it's the local WB's fault I bet in what they feed to TW).


My only complaint is that its DARK, like too much contrast or something. This includes the raw signal, not just Buffy. I can live with it - but did anyone else notice this?


Well, here's hoping that space actually looks BLACK tonight for Enterprise, instead of GRAY

PS _ I did catch some HD previews on PBS tuesday around 5:30pm . A tour of Biltmore estate was one of them. Still getting severe breakup of signal using 2 diff. antennas within miles of the transmitter.

hey, jbabbitt, do you have a hipix?

i've noticed this back when 10.1 started - CBS is actually on another channel, but remaps to 10.1


the same is true for UPN, as you know.


In the hipix, manually add channels 44, 45, 54, 55

(the 54,55 may not be necc.)


then, tune, using the arrows to 44 (shud get nothing)

up arrow tune to 45 - nothing

down arrow tune to 44 and VOILA!

What a great thread.


I'm just getting my OTA HD/Digital set up using a RCA DTC-100 set top box. Would someone be kind enough to list the digital channels with network names that I should be receiving here? I'm not convinced my DTC-100 found all available channels and or mapped them correctly.


Also, if there any "tricks" to get the DTC-100 working correctly on local digital channels I'd of course be very interested (I am receiving some now).

I watched PBS about an hour each day, without a single breakup or audio burp. The pic qual was absolutely perfect. Stunning. The real problem with HD is that I get so "pulled into" the awesome detail that I can't keep track of the show. I watches something about trains (model trains!) and the Panama Canal. Anyway, no problems here. I am just NE of Countryside Mall, with a 80" yagi pointed towards Riverview, mounted on my roof with a $60 RS amplifier and a Samsung SIR-T150.


Maybe you are too close? How is your signal level on other Riverview stations? I have heard of problems with signals saturating the receiver, and an attenuator helps - 6dB cheap at RS... but then you can't get CBS from Holiday?

Anyone in Lakeland or Winter Haven? If you are and you point your antenna east you should get WOPX-DT 48 Pax Orlando. Just came on the air tonight! Reception reports from the west are welcomed.

I agree UPN 44.1 is a bit dark and slightly washed out.


Those of you receiving PBS on the Hipix, does it show up as 54.1? I'm not getting any signal at all.

I'm receiving all digital broadcasts quite well, except for wedu-dt (54). I get no signal at all. Are they broadcasting between 7:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M.?

Also, what is Hipix? I've never heard of this, except in this thread.

The HiPix is a HDTV Tuner card for the PC. It's primary advantage over a set-top box is that it allows you to record the transmission signal to a hard drive and schedule those recordings (ala Tivo).

I'm using a winegard GS-2000 for everything, except 24-1. For 24-1 I have a channelmaster yagi pointed directly north connected to the GS-2000 using a channelmaster jointenna. The jointenna is basically a bandpass filter which filters out the uhf channel 24 signal from the GS-2000 and replaces it with the uhf channel 24 signal from the yagi antenna. It works great. Until I added the yagi with the jointenna, the direction of the GS-2000 was sort of a compromise between channel 24-1 and the rest of the channels. Now everything comes in at 100%, except fox which varies between about 60-93% depending on conditions. I'm still tweaking the direction of the GS-2000.

I'm located about a mile due west of the Clearwater/ St. Pete Airport. The antennas are in my attic.

I'm on Clearwater Beach and I get all the local DT stations fine except for WEDU-DT/54 which shows a zero signal strength on my RCA DTC-100 STB, it did map the station though?


I am using a simple RCA RV type antenna in a round flat plastic case, like what you might see on an RV with no rotor (Home Depot $98). The antenna is in my garage attic.


Is WEDU-DT/54 on full time yet? I just started looking for it this afternoon.

Did anyone notice on Wed's Enterprise a hum-bar floating up and around the video? Most of the picture was a little gray and slightly washed out, but the darker part of the hum-bar, whcih was ablut 20% of the picture, was actually a little less gray and less washed out.


The hum-bar was not bad enough to stop watching, but it definitely was there. Interestingly I went to the SD channel, and it was also there, but not quit that bad. Possibly the digital processing for 44-1 might have made it more noticable. I tuned into 44 and 44-1 this morning just to see if there was any hum-bars, and I couldn't see any. I wonder if the hum-bar was from the UNP network feed?

Gerry, YES! i saw it - thought it was strange that some ground noise of some type was getting into my DTV signal

Am glad it was on their end, although it was NOT there for Buffy & Roswell.


PBS ALERT _ you guys should be checking 54.3


PP - who the heck is John Galt anyway!!! I thought about being too close, but I also tried it on my XIUM omni cylinder thingy and it looked EXACTLY the same - i Mean EXACTLY - so since both of these antennas produce diff. signals usually, I felt it was on their end. I haven't seen PBS on regularly enough to check it more than those 2 times (monday & tue)

Hello all...I'm a long time reader...infrequent poster... with a question on the new channels.


I manage to get all the major locals (8, 10, 13, and 28) with good signal strength(mid 70's to 100) and I thought the new local signals(44, 54) should come in as well, but I have had no luck with them. Did anyone that is getting them have to change their direction of their antenna? I thought they were coming from pretty much the same location. I've scanned my E86 a couple times with no luck.


I live in the East Lake area with a $39 Radio Shack antenna mounted in my attic.


Any help would be appreciated...
