Hi, I am looking for a reliable motherboard to use in a new server. I need the 64-bit PCI slots for the RAID card and the gigabit ethernet card. I prefer AMD boards but that is not an absolute requirement.

The key for me is a high quality board from a good company with good support. I have been very happy with both MicroStar and Asus boards in the past but I am open to all suggestions.

Thank you in advance !!!!!

I've always been happy with a SuperMicro board in my servers (sorry, they don't have AMD based mother boards, they use pretty much just Intel chipsets and Server Works chipsets). Rock solid stability and continuous hardware uptime measured in years in many systems.

Are you willing to wait for PCI-Express boards? we should see a few in Q4.

I might want to use SCSI, and would like more than the current PCI 120MB/sec or so limit of 32 bit. I might just stick with 2 10,000 rpm HDD's and stay @32 bit for now. 64-bit PCI Express and Serail SCSI would be nice though... :D

Slightly old dual mobo list (Intel and Asus should be good too):

Intel SE7505VB2 (E-ATX) $511.10

Asus PP-DLW - DUAL XEON E7505 GETH DDR 533FSB 8XAGP AUDIO (E-ATX)

Iwill DPL533 DUAL XEON - INTEL E7505 (ATX) $419.00

Iwill DP533 DUAL XEON-Intel E7505 (E-ATX) $525.00

Iwill DP533-S (E-ATX) DUAL P-4 XEON BOARD, Intel E7505 , Adaptec® Ultra 320 SCSI $615.00

SuperMicro X5DAL-TG E7505 DUAL XEON (ATX)

SuperMicro X5DAL-G E7505 DUAL XEON (ATX) $447.00

SuperMicro SUPER X5DAE - MBD-X5DAE-O (E-ATX) $494.00

SuperMicro X5DAE-O - Intel E7505 chipset dual Xeon (E-ATX) $514.00

Supermicro SUPER X5DA8 - MBD-X5DA8-O (E-ATX) - Adaptec AIC-7902 dual Ultra320 SCSI $599.00

Tyan Thunder i7505 - S2665ANF - (E-ATX (SSI) form factor) $466.00

Tyan Thunder i7505 - S2665UANF - (E-ATX (SSI) form factor) Adaptec AIC-7902 dual Ultra320 SCSI $607.00

MSI E7505 Master-LS2 - MS-9121 - (E-ATX) LSI 53C1030 Ultra320 SCSI controller - retail box $605.00

Abit WI2P - Dual Intel® Xeon™, Max 12GB Memory, 8x AGP, Gigabit LAN, Dual Ultra160 SCSI

SCSI cards I considered/considering:

Adaptec ASC19160 PCI 32-bit SCSI controller card $195.00

Adaptec ASC29160N PCI 32-bit SCSI controller card $266.95

Adaptec ASC29160 PCI 64/32-bit SCSI controller card $262.95

Adaptec 39160 dual channel Ultra160 PCI 64/32-bit SCSI controller card $333.00

Adaptec SCSI Card 29320-R PCI 64/32-bit - 1 external and 3 internal connectors $295.00

Adaptec SCSI Card 39320-R dual channel PCI 64/32-bit - 1 external, 2 internal connectors $295.00

Adaptec SCSI Card 39320D-R dual channel PCI 64/32-bit - 2 external, 1 internal connector $365.00

PS - right now Newegg has the Intel for $409. And Knowedgemicro (Yahoo best price 5 star) has the Tyan Thunder i7505 S2665UANF for $552.62. Prices I had were from early Feb 2003.

We have three dual-AMD systems using the Tyan boards. We have PCI64 Gigabit Ethernet NICs and 3ware cards in each box as well, along with 4GB memory. They run like a champ.

If you aren't going to use the RAID 0 or 1 capabilities of the -R Adaptec series then you should look at the LSI range of controllers. Far cheaper and with better driver support. You can get an LSI U150 controller for far less than $100.
