As a former 49TXi and now a 59TXi owner, I can add to the remarks regarding MCACC. The 59TXi adds the following options:
1. X-curve adjustment to higher frequencies, very similar to THX processing in that highs are cut by some amount based on audio response in room. I think mine was -0.5 dB. I chose to leave it off, so response is "flat",
2. More importantly - option to calibrate with reverb taken into account. Measurements are taken, and one looks at the initial response, from 20 up to 80 milliseconds (adjustable). A compensation can be made by telling the receiver to use response after a specified delay in milliseconds. I have not yet tried this, but am anxious to see what effect it will have with my Magnepan dipolar planar speakers.
As far as MCACC is concerned that's it. No more freq ranges or other changes as far as I can tell. There are other differences in how you can choose direct vs. processed sound, with the 49 being simpler and more, well, direct to use, and the 59 offering several additional options for a bit more flexibility (but also more complication).
I did decide to sell my 49 and buy the 59 and have no regrets. But I also did that with the knowledge that there were not major differences between them. I have to support Gordon and other opinions on the 49TXi. It is one really great, full-featured receiver. SQ is excellent. My advice is if you can get a good deal on one, you will not have any regrets. Enjoy!
