McCormack UDP-1 or?

532 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  robertawillisjr
I am looking at getting a McCormack UDP-1 but I don't have a dealer with one in stock around. I know this is a great player but wanted to get other thoughts that are out there on this DVD player.

Next, What other UDP DVD are out there that I also need to look at? How ever I have always been very happy with McCormack in the past I don't want to over look someone else.

I know you all will ask so the reason that I like the UDP-1 is that I get a great 2ch audio from many CD and DVD types and also a great DVD player.

Amen but switching from MCH to 2channel or from your default to any other format requires the OSD. Not a problem if you have one.

Kal
The unit has been reviewed by a number of e-magazines. I believe Soundstage was one, another was OAR (??) I will try to post the links tomorrow. I think that one or two are accessible from McCormack Audio.

The reviews were glowing about its audio characteristics and said very little about its video. I belive that Stereophile will be posting a review in the future.
Thanks-I've had my eye on this for a while. I take it you've not heard then?

Unfortunately I haven't heard the unit. I am thinking of trying to get a money back deal through the company since I can't find a dealer.

Doesn't look like it has DVI or HDMI outs- which is real pity.

I may get it anyway as I am looking to upgrade my cd player and add SACD.

I can move my reference Toshiba 9200 DVD player to the bedroom if the pq from the UDP equals or betters (via component).

I know but from what McCormack stated seeing is believing I just wish I could see it.
Does anyone know- DVI or HDMI?

The reviews I've read center so heavily on the audio quality they don't seem to mention the outputs or pq.
I guess that it is so good with AUDIO QUALITY that everyone forgets that it is a DVD PLAYER and skips the PQ part.....
It is based on a Pioneer 45a, so I personally don't hold out much hope for good video quality.
No DVI or HDMI.
