I'm trying to find out if MCE 2005 supports my TV card. Its a Hauppauge wintv dbx with the BT878 chip. Microsoft's system evaluation tool says it passes but everyone says you need a hardware mpeg2 encoder. I don't really need to record with it, just feed the svideo from my PVR into and use it to watch just like dscaler. If it will work how does the quality compare to dscaler? If it won't work is it possible to use the MCE front end to launch dscaler? thanks.

Not usre if it'll work.....I've checked the compatibility list I saw , and you'r card isn't on it. The cheapest one I've see on it is the PVR150-MCE @ www.pcalchemy.com.

Nope, you need a hardware encoder card like the PVR 150, PVR 250, etc. And for the uses you list (deinterlacing/scaling) you don't want MCE, it's primary purpose is a PVR.
