MCE - How to quit doing something without stopping?

This is probably simple but I haven't found it yet. I've been playing with MCE 2005 for a couple of days and I've noticed that if I "stop" something using the Microsoft remote, it stops and then stays that way unitil I either start it again, do something else, or turn the system off. How do I get it to quit doing something (like watching live TV) without it going into stop mode? I just want it to quit doing whatever it's doing and go to the main menu (like TIVO does). Pushing the Start button takes me to the main menu but everything keeps playing. Thanks.
