Okay, I've bit on the MCE bandwagon and I'm trying to do an install but keep getting an error. This is a fresh install on a brand new HDD. I've formatted the HDD, gone through the basic Windows copying/installation. When it goes to reboot, it asks if I want to boot from CD (I'm ignoring this and it is apparently booting from the HDD). The Windows XP screen comes up followed by an installation screen with some dialog. It shows most of the items checked but shows "installing Windows" and something like "setup has 39 minutes remaining". It will sit here a bit and then come up with a "error performing inpage operation". The only option I have is to "ok" which takes me to an error log. Then I can close that but it does the same thing over again.

I'm sure it's something simple but can anybody help me with this problem?

Thank you,

John

I had a Shuttle system with the ATI R300 chipset that MCE absolutely refused to install on. I talked to Shuttle and they were aware of the incompatibility. Which is more data on why I prefer Intel chipsets, but that's another thread.

Might be something like that. What is your system?

Common Cause of "Error Performing Inpage Operation" Explained

Quote:
SUMMARY

When copying files from a diskette on a Windows computer, you may occasionally experience an "Error performing inpage operation".

In this scenario, this error usually indicates physical problems on the diskette media, and is probably unrelated to paging operations involving the Windows paging file, despite the wording of the error message.
So it sounds like you might have either bad media or a bad optical drive.
