Hello everyone. I recently came across a McIntosh MC162 power amp and I was wondering if it would be a big upgrade from my current MC2105 which is quite old now (late 60's). I would be using the amp with a McIntosh C39 preamp and the Focal 706 bookshelf speakers.

Any help on this? Oh and I forgot to mention in the first post that the alternative to buying the amp would be getting nicer bookshelfs, probably something like the B&W PM1.

Typically speaker changes are going to be much more obvious/rewarding than amp upgrades.

The MC162 is $1000. Also after posting this I actually bought a McIntosh C2300 preamp so that will be my preamp now. (I got it for $3000 off list price, it was a great deal).
