Measuring my room Freq response

342 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  CaspianM
When I was near finishing my room a friend came over and had the software to do some initial reading of my room. We made some changes to the treatments. But This person has moved to Europe and his software is way expensive for me to buy.

Any thought on what be a cost effective (read cheap) software that I can loaded on my notebook to get some reading of my room after carpet, chairs and etc. Thanks

Room EQ Wizard. It's free and there's a support thread here on AVSForum. Of course, you will still have to invest in a decent microphone and, perhaps, a preamp/ps.

I second REW; one of the best free programs I have ever seen.

As for mics, you don;t have to spend a lot to get decent results. Nady makes one called the CM-100 which can be had for $40 and will give you all the performance you'd ever need for such an application. Then there's the ubiqitous Behringer ECM-8000 for $50. So, if you don;t have the stuff already, you can get yourself into a totally decent little measurement rig for about $200
Kal and David thank you both.

I will get into this software which sounds like the thing I was looking for.

I have a nice Sony microphone which should work if not will get one listed above.

David where did the $200 figure came from?
$150 for a USB audio interface, $50 for a mic, and $0 for REW.

What mic do you have?

USB audio?? I guess I need some heavy reading.

MY mic is an old but I feel need to get a better one. I think this is a Sony F-V10

Is it calibrated or even reasonably flat in the low end? Unlikely. Also, you need full-duplex audio so that one channel can be a loop-back reference for the other.

Thanks Kal. I will look into this whole thing later. I always used a tad of EQ playing by ear. But with this software I will have a new way of doing it better. I am not sure about this mike at all now.
