I need a huge favor from all you NEC gurus. Just recently I had a blue tube repair by VDC for arcing and now it's been re-installed. Obviously, the entire conversion is out of line and with great difficulty some how I managed to get the red and green lined up together on the cross bar to make it look yellow, but the blue is off by at least 2 to 3 inches from the vertical line and no matter how much I try to use electronic conversion the blue line will not align with the green and red. I understand when a situation like this occurs, mechanical conversion is the answer. Is it?

It is extremely frustrating not to be able to utilze my projector (1352LC) to its fullest capacity.

Can you guys help?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you need to do a mechanical setup.

Syed,

If I am reading you correctly, you are leaving out a very important stem in aligning your CRT.

First, with your signal inputed to the CRT, you want to turn down the contrast amd looking into the CRT's, you will center the rasters.

Once you have done that, you will then mechanically moving the projector, get the G to center on the screen. Then you can adjust the toe in (this is done by looseding the screws that hold the tube in place) and toe in the CRT's so that the vertical line line up with the green. The adjustment screws can go in either some predetermined holes or in a slot. Use the slot so that you can move the tube.

If the center horizontal lines are off from the G you can use rate center to get them back together.

Look in the install manual at the beginning and you will see pictures of what I am talking about.

Terry,

I thank you. I will give it a try but the problem is every time I take the top off I get intimidate by just looking at the electronics.

The green is right on the center of the screen both vertical and horizontal so is Red. Just to let you know projector is placed absolutely flat 12'4" away from the screen.

Syed,

You have to take off the top and front covers to get to the Toe in adjustments. They are phillips screws just in front of the electronics. You will see.

That is basically what you need to do.

Terry,

I'm a little confused. I'm also in the process of setting up my projector - as you may recall (thanks for the email last week). You mentioned that the first step was to center the raster (I take it this is done using the electronic controls), then to adjust the red and blue toe-in. OK, I get to this point, line up the vertical (there's alittle skew top and bottom (I figure I can adjust this later?) but the horizontal lines in the crosshair pattern do not line up. Are you saying to go back to the raster centering menu and undo what I did for centering to get the horizontal lines to converge to the green? The final step is then to adjust the center and edge focus on each of the lenses, correct? This should then complete my mechanical setup (despite the whacked geometry which will be adjusted electronically)? One last question, I have moved my pj up from the specified 12'4" - what exactly do people mean by "opening up the raster" and how is this accomplished - there seems to be significant amount of space between the edge of the raster and the tube edge.

Guys,

There is a really great mechanical setup procedure on this forum. It was written for NEC 9PGs but it should give anyone an idea of what needs to be done.

Just do a search for posts I've done and you'll find it. Its actually a downloadable file.
