We're looking for a new house and want to at least get my foot in the door on putting a media room together. This would require sacrificing a bedroom (fine by me) but I don't have the luxury of buying the house with a perfect size media room. I'll need to remove walls and such - my worry for this particular proposed configuration is the narrow width of the room.

Here's the bedroom area before:

... and my modified version after:

The link to the entire floor plan is here:

** all of upstairs is fair game as far as I'm concerned. We are considering another model but I won't post that until I hear what everyone thinks about this layout.

The gear I will put in there now is a Sony 61" HS10 (4:3) and standalong speakers (5.1) ... later I plan on putting in a front projector and maybe some in-walls.

I ran into a 'formula' on the web somewhere a while back that could determine ideal media room size based on # of viewers, size of screen, etc. etc. - can anyone help?

Looks like I'll get to use the other side of the house .. this is what I'm thinking now:

the WIC in the rear could serve as a gear room (FYI - there is a window in that closet).

We will be designing the house over the next few weeks (just signed the contract today as a matter of fact!) - we have total flexibility since it is a custom builder.

Your thoughts?

PS - my 61" is in my living room (my old house) which happens to be 17 x 22 also and fits comfortably in a full size entertainment center (2 1/2 foot wide piers on each side)

17X22 is a very nice dimension for a home theater! There should be good potential with that room. Brian
