Hello All,

I am setting up a media room and am torn between 7.1.4 vs 5.1.4. I have the ability to setup either, but if I went with 7.1.4 where the right rear would be I was planning on setting up a small desk to move my gaming system to. This would also allow me to run a long HDMI 2.1 fiber cable for some couch gaming as well.

The room layout below is how I would setup the room with a 7.1.4, if I went with 5.1.4 I was planning on moving the surrounds behind the MLP about 105-110 degrees.

Since the rears would be back fairly far it seems like the room would work well for 7.1.4 and compliment the 4 atmos speakers as well, I am just not sure how much I would be missing.

NOTE: This is in finished attic so the ceiling height of 7.10ft is only 7.10ft wide and then the roof line slopes down to 4.2ft where the wall starts.

There are also 2 doors on the back wall that would interfere with bringing the rears closer together.

Also due to the sloped ceiling I cannot move my PC to one of the side walls as I do not have the ceiling height to wall mount an LG C2 42in monitor.

Room dimensions: 21.7ft (L) X 17.3ft (W) X (H) 7.10ft
MLP: 8.5ft from TV.
Main L/R: 8.10ft Apart
LG 77C1
Denon X3800H
Front/Center: Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 SE
Surrounds: Ascend Acoustics HTM-200 SE
Sub: HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP
ATMOS: RSL C34E MKII (4)

Proposed Rear Surrounds as pictured below 13ft back from MLP and 14.6ft apart on rear wall.

Would it be possible to put the rears on the side wall behind the MLP and bring them up about 5-6 feet, aiming them at the MLP. Or would this be too close to the side surrounds and rear atmos?

So unfortunately 4.5ft ends up in the dormer area where a window is.

It looks like the two spots I can mount them would be 2ft from the back wall or 6ft+ from the back wall. I was thinking 2ft would probably be better since it would be further from the MLP. Both places have the speakers mounted to the side walls.

EDIT: After some checking it looks like even at 2ft I am still around 140 degrees, which is within spec.

For the main surrounds, should I go with slightly behind at 100 degrees? Concerned if I go ear height at 90 degrees that the sound could be blocked from someone sitting on the sides of the MLP.
