Mediagate MG-35 Not detect internal hard drive

2099 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  teddystacker
Hi all,

I am a newbie for the MG-35 box. I am using the Alpha1 1.47 custom firmware. My MG-35 detect the internal Maxtor 300GB fine in USB mode. But when I connect to my TV without any network connection the box seems not to be able to detect the internal hard drive. I have to reboot about 3-5 times before it detect it. This happen everytime I turned on the box. My hard drive is set as Master.

Also, video for 720P and 1080i are very fuzzy. Only 480P has the clear video.

Thank you very much for your help.

Is the drive partitioned and formatted?

Cancel that - you say it takes a while/ a few tries to detect.

I'm not too sure actually...
It seems to me that there is something with the way the hard drive spin up. It is a Maxtor 7200 RPM. If I turn the unit on, the first time I will get Disable mode due to not able to detect any network or hard drive setting. Switch the unit off and turn it back on right away (quick enough for the hard drive not to stop completely) then the unit able to detect the hard drive. Probably something in the firmware not wait long enough for the hard drive to come alive when I cold start the device. Really weird problem.
Quite possible, especially with an older drive; but I thought that the time taken for the Mediagate to look at the drive was plenty...
Hi everybody

I'm writing you because of my MG 35. I appreciate very much any help.

I upgraded to Altec 1.5.1 and was all right.

Then to 1.5.1.4 alpha 3 and was all right.

Then to MG35_1.5.2.3-a3-JD_Eng_Devel.upgrade (which I downloaded from pigsinspace dot ca).

At this point

- I can use as USB, and NDAS via ethernet is working too.

- I switch it on and it can see pc's on lan,

- Apparently in lan media, I see the folders and I can access to the setting menu.

but a problem arises:

- when I select "Movies" etc... it says "no files".

How can I make it work again? Is there a way to "downgrade"?.

I've seing some instructions on that in mediagate dot pbwiki

but I'm not sure if that is the way to proceed

Thanking you in advance.

Hi,

As per my advice at the yahoo group...

Suggest you buy a serial recovery cable from here:

Go to Ebay and search on this item no.

150267133705

You will find the cable you need:

RS232 to 3.3~5v TTL Converter Cable(Max3232 inside)

And then follow the instructions located here on how to recover your 35.

Kind Regards,

Teddy
