Can someone please tell me which program will allow me to merge 2 sides of a DVD into 1 video_ts folder and/or .iso file.

For example, my GoodFellas and Pearl Harbor DVDs have a side 1 and side 2, but I would like to create a single video.

Thanks!

Nero Recode used to have this feature.

Import two titles and merge.

Try the free demo and see if it works.

I wouldn't mind knowing this as well so I can merge my LOTR Extended edition discs.

There are a variety of methods, but your best bet is to use DVD SHRINK. Go ahead and rip one to disk, then when you rip the next it will allow you to merge them and specify which frames to join them at.

Thanks, but don't want to "recode" anything

Have you ever used it?

Recode is just the name of Nero's DVD ripping program. Yes, it can do much more than just rip (hence the name) but it does simple Disc to Hard Drive copy.

Anyway, here's a link to use DVD Shrink for merging.

Too Late: I see that it is already posted above, anyway Good Luck with it.

Ahhh...sweet!

I've been using DVD Shrink too, but didn't even think about using the virtual drive approach.

Thanks!

No I have not, but have seen it mentioned basically for Mpeg4 encodes.

Thanks for the link and your help, hirent

Yes, I use Recode for MPEG4 compression. Works pretty nice when I need movies smaller to take on the road.

I've been doing this for the past 2 days. I've been using DVDshrink.

1. First load both sides of movie to hard drive in VIDEO_TS format.

2. open DVDshrink and select "open files." Open sideA or Disc1 first. Once file is open select "Re-author". In Re-author mode drag the main title into the "DVD Structure" section on the left. Adjust compression settings and select the audio streams you wish to keep.

3. Select "Full Disc" and select "open files" open SideB or Disc2 and repeat step 2.

You should now have two titles in "DVD Structure" section. Again make sure you check the compression settings for each title since DVDshrink by default attempts to keep everything under DVD5 size.

4. If you wish to edit start and stop frames you can do this with each file using the arrows icon. When you're done select "Backup!" If your movie is larger than DVD5 size DVDshrink will give you a warning.

I hope this helps

The simple DVDShrink method is fairly seamless... Like mentioned I have done the LOTR extended editions a few years ago.

Playback is pretty seamless.

The only non-seamless part is essentially navigation, chapters repeat aka ch 1-14 then the second part starts over with ch 1-etc... Also when you look at time left (duration of movie) it only accounts for the current portion, the timer will restart at the 2nd part.

Essentially players treat it as 2 distinct movies just played back to back...

I've never thought of the DVD Shrink way, I will have to try this out. I have used a little program called DVD2one, and it worked really well.

Yeah, that's why I did it the other way that I posted. Still though, the DVD Shrink method is a pretty good and easy way especially considering the program that I used to do it (DVD Remake) is not free.
