Merry Christmas to me - Is Panasonic DMR-EH-50S for me?

447 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  captnvideo
I've spent hours going throught posts over the months here, and epecially late last night. My father wants to buy me a DVR recorder, and I would like your help to decide if the Panasonic DMR-EH-50S is the best one for me. I see it at Circuit City for $349 right now.

I have a Dish Network 811 High Definition receiver and would be recording both 16:9 programming and 4:3 programming. I realize that the 16:9 programming would not be in high definition, but I would like it to fill my screen (Samsung 50" DLP television).

I may also copy a few VHS tapes over, but that is not a big thing I would guess.

Should I pull the plug on the Panasonic EH-50S at Circuit City or is there something else I should consider?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Pull The Plug On It! :)

You have already done your homework on it now stop fooling around & go out & get it :D & If your not happy with it you can always return it. Merry Christmas & that's just my 2 cents.
Thanks,

From what I've read, the EH-50 should be a fine choice, record from my Dishetwork 811, in both 4:3 and 16:9, and show both in correct aspect, just no high definition from the 16:9.

I would also very much appreciate any one elses' thoughts on my choices, like the Pioneer 531 or 533.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff
If you don't need DV input, the EH-50 seems awfully close to the cat's meow. Check Resellerratings.com, where it is listed for $333 from Beach Camera, no shipping charge. Couple other sellers in that price range, but Beach is highest rated. Happy post-Christmas.

I own both the EH50 and an excellent 32" Direct View 4:3 480i TV. From what I have read in the EH50 manual, if high-speed dubbing is turned "on", the screen size is restricted to 4:3 (see page 55). This does not affect me but I am assuming from this that if one is recording WS material, then high-speed dubbing should be turned "off".

Someone please correct me if I am not interpreting this correctly.
