Could you please post for all of us non-japanese speaking (both) owners of the HM-DH30000

A. How do you set PCM to native (to get DD output). please refer to the page in the manual and the numbers or something.

B. How do you set digital recording (to record from a Panny 50/51).

Thanks so much. Jaehong suggested I post this.

Hi,

Okay, here we go:

First, find the 'menu' button on the remote. 'menu' is below the 'timer' (a clock logo), at the right side of '12' and above the 'OK' button.

Press the 'menu', the following screen will appear:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v2.jpg

Use the 'arrow keys' at the bottom of the remote to move the highlight to the second option 'mode change'.

Press 'OK', the following screen will appear:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v3.jpg

Use the 'arrow keys' at the bottom of the remote to move the highlight to the second option 'sound config'.

Press 'OK', the following screen will appear:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v4.jpg

Use the 'arrow keys' at the bottom of the remote to move the highlight to the second option 'optical digital sound output'. Default setting is '2ch PCM', use the left/right arrow button to change it to 'direct' mode as the following screen:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v5.jpg

Finally press 'OK' to return to the pervious screen. Press the 'menu' button to exit the on screen setting.

When the optical digital out is at 'direct' mode, ATSC HD tape playback will output the correct Dolby Digital bitstream but Japanese HD tape playback will output a AAC sound format which only a few new AV amp in Japan can decode the signal. So when playback Japanese HD tape, you need to change the digital sound output to '2ch PCM' again.

Hi,

This time we config the HD YPbPr output setting.

Press the 'menu', the following screen will appear:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v2.jpg

Use the 'arrow keys' at the bottom of the remote to move the highlight to the second option 'mode change'.

Press 'OK', the following screen will appear:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v6.jpg

Use the 'arrow keys' at the bottom of the remote to move the highlight to the third option 'input/output config'.

Press 'OK', the following screen will appear:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v8.jpg

The first setting is 'TV config 1'. Default setting is 'D3/HD input'. This value will convert all HD playback to 1080i (D3). For 720p playback, change it to 'D4 input' using the left/right arrow keys as the following screen:
http://lion.telhope.com/~lion/temp/dtvpic/30000/v7.jpg

The 'D4 input' setting will output 720p source as 720p while convert anything else to 1080i.

Finally press 'OK' to return to the pervious screen. Press the 'menu' button to exit the on screen setting.

I have changed the digital output to native, so it now outputs 720p or 1080i natively. I have also easily changed back the audio output between PCM 2 and direct with no problem. It now plays back ATSC tapes with full dolby digital audio, and plays back Japanese tapes with PCM2 audio.

Anyone know of a converter that can change AAC audio to DD?

It would be nice to get the full 5.1 sound out of the BS tapes.

LiOn,

The most important question still remains:

How to configure the iLink (firewire) inputs to communicate with the Panasonic STBs. We wish to record from the Panasonic (and upcoming 169 Time modded DTC 100) to the JVC.

Also to be able to dub from or to the PV-HD1000.

Thank you for the information. The one thing I have not figured out yet is how to connect the unit to an analog display so that I can use the menu. I tried all the video and S-Video connectors but could get no signal with analog video output. Is there something I need to press on the remote to make it output analog?

Please post.

Thanks.

Li On, or anyone?

Anything further on recording with a Panny 50/51? Did the answer get over in another forum or thread that I missed?

It looks like LiOn is away for something important. Although I have no expericence with the connections, I will read that part on HM-DH30000 manual and try to translate it to you all within 24 hrs.

Just in case LiOn is still unavailable.

Are you guys still looking for the solution? Did anyone post it in the HD recording forum? Should I keep trying to help?

For HD recorders or STBs with i-link, connecting to HM-DH30000 should be easy. What is the problem?

Connection is easy. The problem is that I have only been able to get the unit to record analog video and audio with the camcorder and i.link. I believe there is a menu item that needs to be changed to enable digital recording from camcorder.

Thanks,

Oh! You mean that. I may be able to finds something from the manual. However, the whole set up may not work properly as I heard from someone.
