Messed Up Playback in XBMC

751 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Nate Miller

Hey folks... been having a playback issue with XBMC and I'm not sure what the problem is.

The video is REALLY choppy... as in play a frame or two, pause for about 3 secs... repeat.  There is also no sound.

At first I thought it might have been a network issue because everything is stored on a NAS and it was doing it on both of my HTPCs so I tried VLC... no issues at all.

Any suggestions?

It's probably DXVA improperly set. If you're using integrated graphics turn it off, if you're using an external GPU turn it on. It could also be an issue with reclock but try DXVA first.
Have a look at this thread http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911

Definitely not a re-clock issue Slosh (apart from the fact that the OP never even mentioned using it), reclock doesn't work with xbmc (it uses its own proprietary codecs/filters).
Whenever I have that issue it's the WASAPI settings or not having the right options selected under Audio Output settings like 'TrueHD capable receiver'.
Change your Audio Output Device and/or Passthrough Output Device from DirectSound to WASAPI.

OK the general consensus seems to point to the WASAPI settings... I'll take a look at it after work

WASAPI didn't fix it... never did figure it out.  So I switched to Media Browser 3 and I REALLY like it.  There are a few things that took some tweaking to get setup but I really like the seamless integration with WMC.
Set your XBMC audio to analog. If it plays back fine then your audio is not configured properly when using HDMI.
