One way to see if DD/DTS passthrough is truely working on a HTPC is to see if metadata information such as Normalization Dialogue is passed to your receiver. On my Denon AVC-A1SE (5800) this is flagged on the LCD as NormDial and a figure when the digital stream starts. I have noticed that the PowerDVDXP filter passes the metadata no problem but the Ravisent filter doesn't. What is Ravisent doing to the bit stream to filter out such information and should we be concerned?

Jeff,

Don’t know what is going on with your receiver, but according the a Dolby Labs engineer the metadata is embedded in the compressed bit-stream at the time of encoding and can’t be changed by the player.
