MGS4: How do I kill the... [SPOILERS!]

So I've gone back to Shadow Moses and restored power only now to be faced with one of those two-legged robots.. I forget their name. Gecko?
How do I kill it? It's standing in the doorway so I sure as hell can't run through and all Otakon is saying is basically "kill it with weapons!". I emptied a ton of grenades, RPG rounds and about 500 round of M4 on it but nothing.
I know it has to be shot in the legs, but it seems like I can empty an entire clip on it's leg without any results. Did I miss something?

I'll try that! Do I need to shoot it's legs first, then the neck?

If youre using the Solid Eye, it will point out the weak spots. Shooting it in the knees will bring it down but wont kill it.

Are you just outside of Otacon's old office? That Gekko is invulnerable unless you kill it the right way. Remember when you first came down the elevator to the floor, Otacon talking to you about the panel that could still be used to re-electrify the floor? Use MG MKII to shock the panel that you blew up in MGS1 to re-electrify the floor.
You can do that... or you can crawl under the desk blocking the doorway by the hallway the Gecko is in. You can then proceed all the way down to the elevator without being spotted.

Just activate the Mk.III and go shock that sucker. It earns you 5,000 DP!
You can't kill it (i don't think with conventional weapons) you are supposed to crawl under a table by where the gecko drops in at.
