Micro-atx case advise needed...

7397 Views 19 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  xcan
Im looking for a micro-atx (or atx case) that can hold following requirements:
  • Max 28 cm deep (11 inches)
  • Max 12 cm high (4.7 inches)
  • Stylish (kinda like the origenae m10), have to be black, dont need a display in the front, but if its there its ok.
  • No need for optical drive (im not gonna use it), if it have room for an optical drive it have to be hidden or a little slot in opening as the origenae m10.

Can any help?

good god that's tiny, are you sure you cant squeeze an extra inch or so on the depth? I've been in cases since the power switch was attached to the power supply and was a true on/off switch and I don't know that I've ever seen something that shallow and short, except in mini-itx/mini-dtx cases
I think your hopes are a little high.. I would recommend mITX if size is a factor... Zotec has a nice mITX board..

The smallest micro-atx case I can remember is the Hiper HMC-2K53A-A0
but it is still 31 cm (or 12.2") deep (and only 5.3 cm/2.1" tall)
There must be a micro-atx case out there :) I can stech the depth to 29 cm (11.4 inches). Silverstone have a case ( http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...=lc04&area=usa ) that can take standard atx and its only 420 mm (W) x 115.5 mm (H) x 309.4 mm (D)... Sure there must be a micro-atx case on 290 mm (D).

I found this, but i cant find a retailer:

I don't known what M/B you want to put in, but pay attention to this point "Support Micro-ATX M/B (≤210mm*245mm)".

Most of micro-atx M/B I know are 245x245 mm.

I looks really tiny!

I just built a HTPC for a friend using the BK623 which is the same case with a different front faceplate.

I really like the case. It is really small but well designed. The only thing to watch out for is the plastic "air flow director" piece over the CPU. It was really designed for Intel motherboards but I used a AMD and was able to still get the piece installed. I did have to use some tape to close parts of the opening so that it matched the CPU heatsink better but it works fine. Of course you can remove the piece entirely and still use the case.
I also just finished an HTPC with the BK623. It is a great case, I used intel so it fit perfectly.

Very nice case, and quiet. Maybe not the prettiest in the world, but small enough to be inconspicuous.

I think the BK644 is abit more stylish, but it turns out its not on sale yet... How deep is it? 10.8 inches or 12,7 inches?
It's 12.7" when you include the expansion card screw plate that sticks out the back.

I believe this is as close as you're going to get. 15"w x 3.9"h x 11.6"d, it comes in black or silver with a 240W PSU. Available on ebay for $90 US .

Ah, the LC02, that case has been around for about half a decade and was a pretty good design in it's time, it really was, my only complain was that there was NO room for aftermarket heatsinks, at all, and while it fits full size atx boards, they included risers and a horizontal car arrangement so you could use two slots, at best, though often only one, depending on the board layout, and I don't know that PCIe risers have ever been made for it, though it's likely you could find one that fits. I really wish silverstone would take another stab at that case, but with low profile expansion slots and a better drive layout.

I think it is 10.8 deep, and 12.7 is the width.. but I will have to go home and measure it.

The LC02 is a nice looking case.
It may be 10.8 deep if you don't count the plastic front bezel and the expansion card screw shelf sticking out the bact but I just measured it and with it fully assembled it is 12" if you don't count the screw shelf, 12.7" if you do.

I got a pair of Micro-atx cases that I'm using for some of my HTPCs. Here are a couple of shots comparing the two:

Let me get out a tape meassure to see how deep that rack mount one is.

Sorry to go OT,

I LOVE THE JAGER TAP, I almost won one of those a while back, it's on the shopping list for my new house, +2 points for you sir!

There is so much space wasted in matx cases, with no optical drive and external PSU, they could be so small!
