Microsoft says the Wii is great and you should buy it...

Microsoft says buy a Wiintendo... and an Xbox 360

"Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3?" Peter Moore, a Microsoft vice president, said in an interview. "People are going to buy two (machines.) They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3."

"People will always gravitate toward a competitively priced product -- like what I believe Wii will be -- with innovative new designs and great intellectual property like Mario, Zelda and Metroid," Moore told Reuters.

What a misleading thread title. It sounded like Microsoft wanted people to buy Wii instead of a XBOX.
No...they want you to buy a Wii and an XBox...anything other than a PS3. I don't think Microsoft sees Wii as a big competitor. They really are targeting different things and myself along with a number of my friends would like to have both.

I think he is voicing for the mainstream media the rumblings that have been happening at E3 and on the gamer forums. There have been an awful lot of people saying exactly this, that they are now considering the WiiXbox route, instead of a single PS3.

Given what I've seen so far about Wii, it is definitely a consideration for me now too, although I probably won't be the first to pick one up. It depends if the thing lives up to the hype, and if the cost is say $199. At $249, I'd still consider it too, but it'd be less of an impulse buy. At $299 I won't get it.

Nintendo consoles have always been the "other" console. N64 was my secondary console to the Playstation, Gamecube was the "other console to my Xbox, Wii will be my "other" console to my 360. I never had a huge library for any of the systems, but they do have their unique and fun titles that just can't be passed up, they also have all the great party games (that newbies can pick up and play) for when you get together with a group of people.

PS3 and 360 are just too similar. I already have a 360 and as I said before, I'd only get a PS3 around launch if it offers a significant advantage over the 360. And as of now, I see no such advantage.

Now of course I'll end up getting a PS3 sometime down the line, but probably not until it costs somewhere between $200-$250. Just like I did with the PS2.

The best system to buy with a 360 is a second 360.

Multiplayer gaming on Live is just too sweet to pass up. I don't care for split screen so a second 360 system is really worthwhile.

Very well said that is my outlook as well...The ps2/Xbox was so damn close in comparison to me it didnt matter but I owned all 3 this past generation. Thanks to getting my ps2 for $199.99 at Xmas and finding a Cube used at a pawnshop for $49.99 and my Xbox the following Xmas. But this gen I think I might opt out of the ps3 because all of the exclusive titles I have no interest in and when their is a ported version of games such as Madden available on ps3/360 the differences wont be their. I am still reluctant to pick up a Wii especially now but I might but not for $199.99....I am completely satisfied with my 360 at the moment.

I've been telling all my friends that they should do a deal with a premium 360 bundled with a wii for 599 during ps3 launch. If they did just a joint sale like that for the first say 6 months of ps3 release or so, they would wreck sony. It likely won't happen but from a business sense it is food for their exec's thoughts.

No, but most guesses have been around $199-249.
MS is such a driven corporation that they would be willing to subsidize Nintendo's loss just to crush Sony and establish a solid foothold in the gaming community. I don't doubt that this might be a call out to Nintendo saying MS is up for it if they are. They still have quite a few months to work out the details befor launch.
That quote sounds almost exactly like what Moore said to Adam Sessler

on G4s E3 coverage.
Wii looks fun but I think I'm going to hold off for a little, I only have so much gaming time and Zelda:TP is coming out for the cube which I have at the same time. I'll buy a PS3 whenever its humanly possible (may take forever considering the demand) as it is an amazing value. :D

The PS3 is an amazing value only if you want the BD player and all the other aspects of it. If you just want a game console and aren't attached to the exclusives (final fantasy, et al) its pretty dang pricey ($200+ more than its shelf space competitors). But I was listening to the gaming steve podcast from E3 and they made a great point on it: The PS3 will own Japan no matter what, so Sony may be simply trying to make as much money off the launch as they can. This may cause them to lose market share else where but they know they will sell every console that they can make for the first 4-6 months. It's only the longer term that may hurt them and Sony may not believe they are that vulnerable there.

It is pricey but even just a gaming console I imagine time will show it to be an amazing value (softare isn't here yet, but the indications are showing already) :)

I think the Wii will be the best value as a gaming console if it is priced at $200(innovative new controller/gameplay, most games $40 or so).

Some of the PS3 games look very good, but so do some of the 360. I haven't seen the killer app/game yet for either console, just some promising titles (and I realize this will be a personal thing for most people: some people have to have Final Fantasy, some have to have Halo). The extra $150 or so Sony is forcing buyers to pay for the BD drive keeps me from thinking of it as a good value, let alone amazing. Maybe after a few price cuts. But again it depends on your have to have games.

By some accounts, the Wii pretty much stole the show at E3. According to TGDaily , people waited in line for hours to play the Wii, while the wait at Sony's and MS's booths were five minutes or less.

I have a 360, and I'm definitely pre-ordering the Wii.
There'll have to be a killer lineup of games (or of Blu-Ray DVD's if it's a good player) and a few price drops before I'll buy a PS3. Fortunately the timing of both events will probably coincide.

I haven't been a big Nintendo person since SuperNES, with the exception of buying an N64 for Mario Kart, Zelda OoT and Beetle Adventure Racing. But I DO see myself picking up a Wii for the classic library - stuff my wife will play too. (though I'm not looking forward to dropping back to an oldschool brick-style controller)

I doubt the Wii would steal much from my time on the 360, but it'd be fun for the occasional game of Mario Kart.
that's pretty crazy.. I'm glad to see Nintendo's console doing so well at the show.. I hope they do much better this gen than last, much more software as well :)
