"Midway" 2019 Remake Movie!!!

New movie coming this November. To me this is Epic News as the single most important engagement of WWII. It deserves a remake. It has been a long time since I have been this excited about a new movie. Wow!

November 08 release date. Just in time for Veterans Day. Hot damn!

Mods, my apologies if this is the wrong section. I did look and could not find a better place that I have Thread creation rights.

IMHO it's okay, but far from great. Terrific soundtrack what with bullets whizzing by, explosions everywhere and plenty of substantial VLF.

Has the potential to be a well-liked Atmos mix on Blu.

Not at all. One of the few movies I've been too in a while where the audience applauded afterwards....pretty good sized crowd on opening day.

Sounds good to me, I'm up for a war movie.

So how is this movie? IMDB gives it a 6.7. I missed it in the theater and wondering about a blind-buy for this one.
@jcmccorm, I rented it and enjoyed it. I will be purchasing the 4K UHD for this. Lots of good sound and bass as well.

Thank you! I think I'll get the UHD as well.

Saw it today. 6.7 is probably about right. A far cry from the original, but not bad. Battle scenes made the movie. Acting was OK. Will I watch it again? No.

it is, look at the official review by Ralph.
It's an old-fashioned war film, with dialogue to match. They give credit to the codebreakers whose role was still classified in earlier films.

My wife got caught up in the battle scenes, which is rare for her.

I bought it blind. Watched the other day and thought it was Great. Going up against the original with the original cast is not a fiar fight. So I am not comparing it to the Original Midway. I am a touch partial or Bias here. As this story is about one of the US Navy's greatest and biggest Battles in history and was a pivotal turning point in our Solo Pacific War with the Japanese.

Was the Acting as good as the Original. No. Some CG looked funny, but not most of it. The SOUND! Wow the Bass and use of Atmos was breath taking stupendous. I was on the edge of my seat. I do really think this version will become a cult classic. It was a Bassfest from start to finish. My wife, who NEVER watches War movies with me. Came in from outside and said "What are you watching?" I guess she could hear the Bass outside. She stood there looking for a few mins. Then Sat Down to watch. At the end she said "Wow that was very riveting and lifelike"

Again I am incredibly Bias here. But I loved the movie and it will get many replays, and will become one of my top choices for Demo worthy material.

Bought the stream version on Amazon deal for ~$8 since I had Amazon credits, only $2 more than renting. Haven't watched it yet.

I assume wife and I will like it, she being a History teacher/buff and me a tech/war geek. Drama/dialog is OK with us to build the historical context and characters.

Will followup with UHD disc purchase as warranted for visual/audio quality.

I saw the 70s Midway first run as a kid, in Sensurround.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sensurround

As a single digit kid, I had panic attacks during the heavy sub/shake scenes (bombs, guns, plane engine rumble), scared as it was my first exposure to force feedback/sub levels that high. I was sensitive to loud sound, as I suspect a lot of kids with their good young ears are.

Spent most of the movie in the lobby/bathroom...

That used to be a little genre of WW2 films, those months between Pearl Harbor and Midway when the US was losing the war. All made shortly after the real events.

We have Wake Island (1942) and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944), and I've posted reviews of:
