I'm currently looking for a nice mini-system for a second room (going to be used as a workout room with treadmill).

I'm looking at the Onkyo MC5 and the Denon system (with Mission or Polk speakers). I understand they are very nice, but I gotta ask, how do they compare to something like the Aiwa or Sony mini-system?

I expect the Onkyo to sound better, but does it really?

Does anybody have any experience with these? Does anybody have any suggestions for a mini system if ~500 is my expected budget.

This will be for music only, no TV, no theater, just good quality music to work out to.

The Parasound Zamp stereo amp and pre-amp looks like the basis for a good mini system (check out http://www.audioadvisor.com ), but would need to be mated to a CD player and bookshelf speakers. I'd look to the used market, too . . . .

I don't want to buy separates for a second room.

I just want some opinions on the mini-systems that are within reasonable cost.

My biggest question is:

If I'm cranking up the volume while running on a treadmill, do I need the Onkyo, or will the lower cost Sony do just fine?

Keep in mind the treadmill makes noise.
