I think I've over-analyzed this to death to where I can't make a decision anymore. Two weeks ago, bought the Mitsubishi WD-62525 for $3999.00. The first I had to send back because the screen was tilted about 3/4". The second just arrived and it is tilted as well, although not as badly (1/2").

I've talked to BB where I got the TV and they are willing to send me another. I've thought about just returning the set or let me exchanging it for some other brand. I'm considering getting the Samsung 61" (HL-P6163W) BB will sell it to me for $3899.00. The guy I talked to said he couldn't get the Mitsubishi WD-62725 model. I have also spoken to Mitsubishi's customer service and they are willing to send a tech out to fix my present set.

As far as picture quality goes the Mitsubishi is great (on the HD Directv channels and DVD)! The colors are vibrant, nice deep black levels, etc. One disappointment is the glare, I didn't think it would be much of a problem since we have the set in a walk-out basement with few windows. I've removed the screen, which alleviates this, but I would rather leave it on. Another disappointment is the quality of the standard Directv channels, but I don't know if this would improve by getting a different set or not.

I've read tha the Samsung's are not without their faults as well and don't want to be disappointed again. Any thoughts?

First, I think there's some sort of rule about posting retail prices offered/paid here but I may be wrong.

Withe regard to the glare, perhaps your best bet is to buy a 725 series outer screen protector. I've heard they are $200 and basically they remove supposedly remove 70% of the glare. Another approach that's been suggested in the past here but with no follow-up was to go to a frame shop and buy a piece of no-glare photographic lexan cut to size. The original poster suggested that you could buy the sheet for around $50.

Having seen the 525 52" alongside a Sammy 50" HD3 set, I think the Mits wins out on picture quality to my eyes. Seemed deeper, sharper, and more contrasty, but with better detail too. PQ is very hard to define and a very individual thing, so you yourself have to make the call. From a feature set point of view, the Mits would seem to have it all over the Sammy, and frankly... I would've expected them to discount the Sammy a few hundred under the "comparable" (size-wise) Mits based on the built-in tuner alone.

BB apparently is not a qualified "Diamond" series dealer, and I guess you won't see the 725 there at all. Tweeter is, but you won't see discounting like that at Tweeter either.

I, too, have had problems with my Mits 62525. Bad lamp on the first, scratched screen on the second. I'm on my third, but this time I got the 62725. Glare is not eliminated, but is greatly reduced. I had considered the Samsung when I made my initial purchase. IMHO the Mits is the best DLP picture quality on the market right now, including the 61" Samsung. I personally would stick it out with the Mitsubishi. Dollar for dollar, it is the better set. Why spend that kind of money on a set that you didn't choose to begin with?

To me, the glare and the tilt do not exactly make the Mits a great buy. I bought my 56" Sammy 14 months ago, and absolutely love it.

Tilt is an easily fixed adjustment to the set. See the Mits threads for instructions and posts from many people who have done it successfully.

Glare screen on Mits can be removed leaving you with the same type of screen as on the Sammys.

IMO pick the best picture to you. My bet is DTV will look about the same quality on either set. The only fixes I've seen work are updating your DTV box, upgrading cables, and minimizing the length of cables (especially from the dish).

The rules for this forum are posted at the top of the thread list.

I don't know why the 725 series screen shouldn't fit the 525 series sets but Mitsubishi says that they don't.

There are a lot of dealers that carry both models. I don't see a 70% improvement. Like PQ I guess it's a matter of choice. I thought the improvement was about 25%. My wife vetoed the 725 with one glance.

I have a problem visualizing how the lexan would be attached to the TV without looking tacked on.

BB apparently is not a qualified "Diamond" series dealer, and I guess you won't see the 725 there at all.

I believe the 725 is the Medallion series but BB may not carry that either.
